If you hate exercise then don't do it! Instead adopt an active lifestyle. By that I mean do activities where you move your body:
Go for a walk with friends Park your care at the back of the lot so you have to walk Ride a bike around the block Take the bus and then walk to your destination take a dog for a walk play with your kids (or borrow some kids) kicking around a ball jumping rope etc. throw a frisbee in the park Walk to the store Play sports Wii - I play with my granddaughter
Going to the gym and sweating on equipment isn't fun for most people (I love it!) but I really love being outside and moving my body, getting fresh air.
I also hate working out so I use working out as a stress reducer. I do this by making it into a challenge for me. I am very competitive; so I set goals for myself and I push myself to make them. For instance, my favorite machine is the elliptical. I have a goal to hit 10,000 strides in on hour. I haven't made it yet but I have gotten close. Having this as a goal actually makes me excited to work out because I can't wait to meet my goal.
Another thing you could do is find a way to reward yourself. I have a friend that can only get her workout in first thing in the morning. This means that she has to get up at 3:45 a.m. to get in her full workout before she has to go to work. She puts aside a set amount of money each time that she makes it to her work out. She then uses that money to purchase something that she has been wanting. If she doesn't have the money she doesn't get it.

Try a variety of programs - things that you can do on your own and things that you do in a group until you find something that you like. Borrow a neighbour's dog and walk it if you don't want to walk alone. Borrow some exercise videos or DVD's and try them at home.
I love Zumba class, but if you don't want to go anywhere you can get the Zumba videos - they are great if you have the right space at home for it. I also love Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds videos - they require very little space and are quite simple and you can go at your own pace.
I agree! I hate it to so I try and find things to do that aren't considered exercise but have some reward at the end besides sweat! lol I agree with many of the others here that say DANCE! I do this one a lot, get some funky music going and dance! I also karaoke and dance! Mowing the yard or scooping the drive and walks (usually would have my teens do this). Deep, seriously deep, cleaning, gardening. Stuff with 'seeable" progress lol
A positive and healthy attitude can conquer mountains ....... Literally. The benefits of an exercise program are endless and you have everything to gain and much to lose ............ Abounding health, energy, increased stamina, healthy immune system that can and does ward off much sickness ............... Plus looking good!

I HATE(d) the thought of exercise and going to a gym, too! No, seriously, before I became active, I'd shudder at the thought of this so-called "physical activity." That was because I never learned how to properly breathe while running, so to this day, I still can't run without getting the worst dry throat. I thought all exercise would be boring and so "bad painful."
Well, now I have found a LOT of exercise that I reallllly enjoy: 1) WEIGHT LIFTING. Crazy, right? I LOVE iron pumping. I don't get to do it a lot because the only gym I belong to is my college gym (and all the scary football guys use the free weights/benches), but it is SO MUCH FUN. 2) CYCLING. What is better than exercise while you sit down? Seriously. Grab a book or a TV remote, and your day isn't upheaved at all. YOU WORK OUT WHILE SITTING ON YOUR BUM. Who can't love that? 3) The Arc Trainer. This is my preferred cardio machine. It is like an elliptical, but the way it is designed, your breathing and movements are somehow much more natural, so I don't feel the "bad pain" that I get in my throat from running. It is only slightly more intense than cycling, but I can get my HR up 20 more bpm. They're mega expensive, so I only use them when they're at a gym (I first used them at an old school gym back in Spokane, and my college gym just got two this year, so I'm a happy gir) 4) DANCE GAMES. No seriously. Just Dance is one of the most fun ways to exercise ever, because you look like an idiot and you play to stupidly awesome music (Just Dance 4 rickroll'd me...) 5) EXERCISE VIDEOS. While now I love INSANITY and the likes, I started off with Billy Blanks Tae Bo. He's the most buff guy I'm not afraid of.

Dog walking or join an adult team sport like soft ball.
you could try walking. i use it as an excuse to get out of the office and listen to music, news, or an audio book. I've heard of some people who pick a book they really want to read, get it an audio version, and only listen while exercising. good luck!

I'd say the one thing you could try is to change your attitude! Really, a year ago I felt just like you, but I figured I had to do something besides starve myself if I was ever going to lose the weight. So I set out to walk it off, then I sped up a bit and jogged, before I knew it I was ready to run. Now I run almost every day and I love it, inside or out, track, trail or treadmill, I love the energy, the sweat, the accomplishment, and the joy of exercise. Try it, you might find that you don't really hate it after all. Best of luck, but that only comes with hard work!
Ok So once a week I turn on the hit chanel on my tv with music, get my heart rate monitor on and dance....like dance your a** off, drop it down low, arms up, make up moves, just dance like no ones looking kinda dancing for like 20 or 30mins! You would be amazed how your heart rate really gets up and how many calories it burns. Its fun and exercise without feeling so exercisey ;-)

Call me crazy, but I enjoy Richard Simmons videos! He's so upbeat & fun... I just laugh & have a great time. I enjoy walking, find a friend to go along with you! I recently bought a treadmill but I prefer walking outside more than using the treadmill (it hurts my ankles a lot). Another option is using the Wii. I have DDR (Dance, Dance Revolution & Walk it Out) I enjoy doing both of those for a change in routine.

be open minded and try everything, even stuff you don't think you might like..you never have to set foot on a treadmill or elliptical if you don't want to.

Exercise is important for healthy living, and it makes weight loss much easier, but the real weight loss happens in the kitchen.
There is so much more to the world of exercise than treadmills and ellipticals. I avoid them like the plague! GRoup fitness classes, Zumba, video games. Running, walking, biking, swimming. The possibilities are literally endless. Instead of grinding on a treadmill for an hour, you can knock out an intense HIIT session in 15 minutes and get the same basic results! Get off the treadmill, and get outside. Do a 5k. Go for a walk.
The only limit is your imagination! (And occasionally, the weather.)

oh yeah, swimming is a great exercise. Works all the muscles.
Find a freind to go walking with. Have you thought about swimming it s a good workout.

An elliptical isn't that bad. Better than a treadmill. That just wrecks havoc on your joints. But that's just one gals opinion :). I like dancing. Just busting a move, looking a fool. Some oldies but goodies aren't bad either. Jumping jacks and jumping rope are usually included in my workout. Lunges, squats, side lunges are all part of my workout. I don't blame you though. Hated exercise too but realized I needed to get off my butt if I wanted to get back to my old weight.

I HATE the thought of exercise and going to a gym, getting on the treadmill or the elliptical machine. I haven't tried a lot of different exercise routines. I have about 70 pounds to lose and would love to know what you enjoy and help me LOVE to get that dreaded exercise in!!
