Thanks! for all the words of encouragement. I'm so happy to see that many people are soda free or are trying hard to break the sugar roller coaster. I do feel much better.

That's awesome! I have up soda years ago and still don't have it as much. I think I have it like once a month, if any. This year I'm trying to give up meat, kinda worried lol, but I will give it a shot!

I gave up my 6pack per day Diet Coke habit about 4 years ago, and don't regret it for a minute! I very rarely will drink a Root Beer (at a picnic or something) but don't really even like it. It was a wake-up call for me when I read the ingredients.... there was absolutely nothing REAL in the entire drink except water. I knew I didn't need to be pouring that many chemicals in to my body every day.... how crazy!

If I want something fizzy, I will do seltzer water with a dash of flavored stevia (lemon is my fav, but root beer actually tastes pretty good too). It makes the water a tiny bit more interesting, and feels fuzzy on my throat.

If I can give it up, anyone can. It was a struggle at first, but its easy now. I can't stand the taste of Diet Coke these days. Good luck all who are trying! Hang tough - you CAN do it.

I'm trying to severely limit it too. I tell myself even when it is diet it is still just a chemical stew I am putting in my body.

Compared to my "daily" habit - I am about 95 percent soda free - I never thought I could go a single day (or hour) without my Diet Coke

I was on one for about 4 months. I had to stop though because it was the cheapest thing at my school to drink if i had to stay late or something. A bottle of water was like 4 dollars while pop was 1.77

I've had two cans in the last 3 months. Not bad for a 6 a day habit.

I gave up soda a little over a month ago. I had a sip of coke the other day and it tasted so gross to me! I prefer water by far now!

I gave up diet coke/pepsi three weeks ago! I now drink water, milk, and coffee. I am trying to lower my Splenda intake in my coffee, but that is harder than giving up the diet drinks. I feel amazing since I stopped drinking them. I have less headaches and I feel like I think more clearly now. Is that weird?

I gave up soda a few years ago. I didn't notice much of a wt change but I just mentally feel better. I really only drink a cup of coffee and water the rest of the day.

I maybe have a soda a couple times a year. I just naturally steered away from soda about 2 or 3 years ago. I'll have it if I want to stay up (Coke keeps me wired), or if I'm having something that just screams it needs soda. And even then, I opt for a sparkling water or club soda just to have the bubbles without the sugar. Best thing I've done.

I had a Root Beer on Monday and it was a HUGE sugar rush, followed by a crash. It felt terrible.

I stopped drinking soda in 1999. I drink mostly water and tea.
Very rarely I will have soda pop and don't really like the taste now.

For those that are struggling with soda this seminar Sugar:The Bitter Truth might help you to get off this poison. I found this to be very interesting. It's 1 hour and 1/2 long but good information.

I have been soda free for 2 years. I don't buy it for my kids either. I am amazed at some of the addictive levels of drinking like 6-8 cans a day. If you were to drink 8 cans a day that is around 1120 calories per day and 312 grams of sugar per day. Your total calories should be roughly 1500-1800 and adult grams of sugar around 24 g per day or less. WOW to me that is eye opening if you are drinking it to that level of addiction.

I would too, stop making these soda companies RICH at our expense! Just saying!

Good luck with this! I know how hard it is. If I were to re-introduce soda again into my diet I would be addicted again. I know it! I just choose to not drink it!

Watch the VIDEO! Good stuff!

Because I never started on soda, I never had to give it up. I am grateful because I have enough addictions!!

Well, well, well... I finally found you.

I hope I can find ideas here - or if anyone has a suggestion of where I can find some help other than this message board topic page, I would greatly appreciate your advice.

As all of you that have posted before me, I too am a sodaholic... Dr. Peppers are my number one enemy. This weekend I went to my in-laws for New Year's Day. They had Coke and Root Beer, but I declined and went to the store to get my drink. My father in law jokingly asked- a little addicted? I said yep and was off to the store. It hurt and was a rude awakening for me... unfortunately, it didn't bother me enough to say no that day.

I have quite drinking all sodas semi successfully (I say semi successfully because I did start back again - I think to successfully quite, it must be for good or at least for good except a rare drink a few times a year, but you will read that I can't do that...) for about 1.5 years about 6 years ago. For some stupid reason after I had my first disgusting drink after the habit was broken, I told my self to try it again to make sure I really didn't like it.... Dumb, that was a mistake! It was no problem for me after that. About a 2 months of that 2nd drink... I kept telling myself I needed to give it up again, but for good; I knew that I could never have another drink again b/c I'm just one of those folks that once I have one, addiction takes over. (Thank God, and all the goodness around me, that I am only that way about soda/Dr.Pepper... I could careless about alcohol or the few drugs I've tried.) So... I would half heartily try to quite here and there and then I would try harder, but the longest I've gone w/o a DP, is a day. I would just want a soda and I didn't care that it was 150+ empty calories.

Of course I get caffeine withdrawal headaches if I try to stop - but I can take ibuprofen or Tylenol for that - that's not my real problem... Its the habit of drinking a soda, not water, milk, or juice (btw, I don't like most juices), as well as the sugar addiction - that is oddly only finally quenched by DP not candy, chocolate or other sweet foods, so apparently I also like the feel of the drink in my mouth and throat... You know, I can't even say that I really like the taste anymore, because there are times when my mouth feels so icky after drinking a DP... that's when I go to water - to clean my mouth out... You would think that I wouldn't want that feeling back so not to drink another one for a while... but nope - as soon as the bad taste is gone, I feel the need to take another gulp. Sick, I tell you!

I don't know what to do... I'm not sure what my triggers are for it... I'm not sure where to start or what to ask for help on.

Please help.

I get migraines if I don't have some form of caffeine in the morning, so I allow myself one diet or zero calorie soda when I first get to work in the morning. I drink water the rest of the day. For me, one case of soda a month is cheaper than the migraine pills the doctor prescribed.

I used to drink Mtn Dew straight out of the 2L every time I passed by the fridge. I don't drink any pop of any kind anymore....

If I need caffeine I have some coffee. :) I don't miss that high fructose corn syrup at all! And nope--I don't drink alcohol either.....

I just started Spark. I have had a Dr. Pepper habbit for years and knew they were empty calories but "had to have it anyway". Well since I started tracking my calories on the nutrition tracker it gave me a visual of how may empty calories I was consuming. I was disgusted! So, making the committment to myself that I'm done!

You all are a great inspiration to kick the habit! Congrats on all of your success. My goal for the first part of the year is to cut back my soda intake dramatically. I'm going one a day (in the AM). We'll see how this goes!!

I have had exactly 3 drinks, small drinks, of soda since August 29th 2012....and I can honestly say they were awful. I used to think I couldn't make it without soda but now I know it can be done! Congrats to all you long termers! I so hope to be there soon!

I gave up Mt. Dew (6+ cans regular/day minimum) habit cold turkey the day I started Spark July 23rd. I have had about 4-5 cans TOTAL in the 5+ months since. It has definitely lost its appeal. I drink unsweetened iced tea (zero calories) and water mostly. I haven't had a migraine since July, either!

It is a hard one to give up, but you save a fortune and it makes so much sense. I drink a lot of iced tea and fizzy mineral water now.

I too gave up soda more than a year ago! I don't miss it. I find the only thing I want to drink is water. I love water - cold, clean, filtered water. I don't go anywhere without it. I am proud that I gave up diet coke and artificial sweeteners.

Anyone else on a "soda" free streak?
