Agreed. Right now is about staying on the horse. And I have had a therapist for awhile now and we talk about this issue all of the time. It's such a vicious cycle - - it's scary :(

Unfortunately for a lot of people it is the emotional stuff which DOES lead to binging, but the reality is that it is a vicious circle - you binge because of emotional issues, so then you feel even worse because you have binged. I would suggest that you find a therapist who will help you deal with how to handle your emotional stressors, deal with any baggage from the past which MAY be contributing to it, and give you the more appropriate tools to deal with them. You can talk with your Dr about it and ask for a referral to one.

Just remember, most of us mess up at some stage - what is important is that we get back on the horse!

Good luck,
Kris xx

I've been dealing with this for awhile now...I make really great decisions to not binge and I feel great. Like last night...I was fine and I went to the gym this morning as usual but once I sat down to do my paper I got so anxious. I used to use the Nutrition Tracker...i used to plan my meals the day before but it was too strict and it was good for me.
I'm just so tired of messing up and getting off track and getting back on track and so on and so forth. I'm very healthy- I'm vegan and I do include lots of nuts, beans, and tofu in my diet...I never feel hungry when I binge...and if I do a little snack would suffice instead of eating 2 bagels a bag of pistachios and so on and so forth (bagels are not healthy but when i binge I am usual indiscriminate as long as its vegan)
...it's the emotional turmoil that brings me to binging... :(

Hi Caitlin - obviously this episode is under control now, but do you have anything in place for when it happens again? (both the binging and the panic attack!)

Do you use the Nutrition Tracker. If not, it can help you to stay on track. Is it possible that you often don't eat enough or enough protein to help reduce the hunger/binge? Learning some good breathing techniques and other techniques to help you through the the panic attacks will be very beneficial for you overall!

Thank you, reading that really helped me land back on earth and I'm back to writing my paper (which is what has been stressing me out) So I will use your ideas as goals for this weekend :)

And I'm not hungry (or sick to my stomach right now -- but definitely fuller than usual) but I am still going to cook a light dinner...just to get me back on track. I don't want to "skip dinner" and snack later...
Dinner: 1/2 steamed squash stuffed with some tofu and a small salad on the side.

Take a deep breathe ! Everything is going to be alright. You did NOT derail any of your efforts at good health or weight loss because you've eaten too much today. You're not a bad person or an unhealthy one. What to do ?

Do your best to try to be more mindful for the rest of the day. Try to eat healthier food and stay away from the treats. One less than perfect day or weekend of eating will not make or break your healthy life style. Try to practice moderation, but if you can't do that... the day isn't a loss.

Tomorrow, you eat more mindfully. If you were to eat right five out of seven days this week, you'd still be doing better than the average American. Remember, you don't have to be perfect to be healthy.
