JANEY, you don't even have to add them to your favorites. If you go to the recipe tab, all the recipes you enter show up under "shared recipes" even if you didn't share them. I probably have close to 100 recipes built in the builder, but I've only shared maybe 1 or 2 of them (because it says not to share recipes from other sources, even though people do it), but they all still showed up in the "shared recipes" drop down menu on the tracker.

I too rebuild everything myself in the recipe builder, with the ingredients/sizes that I will be using. So many of the user recipes (and many regular recipes) are too vague. Like, they will say "2 chicken breasts" but don't specify the size. A chicken breast could be 4 ounces, 8 ounces, or even 10 ounces. Big difference! So I'll just rebuild using the size of breasts that I have. Same other stuff... a potato can vary a lot in size for example.
Also with user recipes, you have to trust that the person entering the recipe even knows how to enter things properly. Like again, for chicken breasts, so many people do not use the ounce entry, they just use the "1 chicken breast" one, which again, is way too vague.

Yeah, I don't blame you - I don't trust them either. I always use the Sparkpeople recipe calculator to figure things out:
Thereafter you can add the recipes to your favorite foods in your tracker. It's also handy for breaking down your own recipes so you know (or can tweak) what's in them.
You probably already figured this out, but in order to determine/define what a serving size should be, either use your food scale or else a measuring cup to portion your finished product out. For example, when I make a homemade soup, I use a 1-cup measuring cup to scoop the entire thing into a different container. If I end up counting 14 scoops, then I've got 14 servings, and so on. Simple, but took me a little while to figure out!

I just found this website through google, I'm trying to go on a low calorie/high protein diet and I'm finding a lot of great recipes here. However, I am questioning the legitimacy of the nutritional facts on user submitted recipes. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm not sure I can trust a facts counter if it doesn't come from an official source.
