Getting involved in the Spark Teams and message boards is always really good because it keeps you motivated. Also there are plenty of great articles and other resources that are interesting to read and learn about and that are a big help. There is also a search box where you can find people around your age, location, with the same goals, etc. Find people that have the same goals as you and work together! Having a buddy or team for support always helps me to stay motivated. Good luck with everything! :)
Your sign up story sounds familiar. I remember it well because it used to be me. :) That is, until spark. I even lost alot and tried maintaining that for awhile, and it worked. (I had always gained what I lost back before spark.) What works is different for everyone, so I will just tell you what worked for me.
Start by adding some spark friends, creating that circle of support.
Blog your heart out. Get whatever is going on in your head out on the screen. Keeps your fingers busy and out of the fridge and you can't eat your feelings. Plus people give great support.
Join an active spark team and keep checking in, adding to boards, etc. Cheering yourself and others on keeps everything positive.
Track everything because in the beginning it is such a surprise to see what and how much you are eating.
Find a buddy to email back and forth. Finding a spark BFF can help on those down days, when you feel like you don't want to take another step on that scale. You keep each other going. I have met some amazing people on spark.

Welcome to Sparkpeople! I have found that it's best for me to change one or two things at a time. Like try to drink more water and when I reached that goal I added another one. There will be up and down days just remember to your track food and celebrate every victory!

Welcome to Spark! This is a fantastic community, and we're glad you're one of us now. Good news, you will find lots of support and tons of good information on this site. Bad news, there is still only one way to lose weight and that is to take in fewer kc's than you expend. But the beauty of this site is that it gives you ways to do that without living on celery and water. Great recipes, support for fitness, and strategies to deal with habits you want to change. Explore the site and ask questions on the message boards and in your teams. Good luck!

Hi! I am finally signing up for Sparkpeople because I feel like I need a group that will support me in my journey to lose weight. I have been overweight all of my life and I have tried many times over the years to lose the weight and I never am able to stick with something long enough to see any results. I am hoping that being a part of this community will encourage me to keep on track with my weight loss. Any suggestions?
