thank you so much onenel!

Its all goood.. Quiet new years eve. I worked till 11pm.. came home to my husband watching the tv. He had cut some cheese and crackers and poured me a glass of wine.. so I induldged.. saw the new year come in , in a very spectacular way all over the world on tv.

for us it was just as meaning full.. Looking forward to the year a head 2012 and all the wonderful changes I will be making.. right now i'm still reminding my self of all my "babysteps"
i've started and will continue untill they become natural.. and i don't have to think about it!

By the way.. I have cut one bad habit from the past.. and that was drinking soda.. very rarely now will have it. So loads of calories saved.. so see it can be done.. I keep telling my self. lol.

oh ya.. that 1 silly little glass of wine. yup.. went down well but I really did not feel very good this morning.. So really how many times to I have to go through this. Its not worth it AT ALL! I do not want to trade any of my moments of living.. feeling crappy... so starting today .. no more, it doesn't fit in my life. ok... whats up for today..???

Well I got some appetizers, my dad is coming up for a visit.. we will pop some of those in and enjoy.. I will count everything I eat and see what my calorie intake will be. I will be going for a walk later on today to continue my 10 min a day challenge.

Happy new year. emoticon

thanks onenel

I woke up at 5 am promply this morning.... emoticon not good its my day off!
This week I have decided to cut back on my coffee comsumption.. and switch to tea. I feel like I need more and more coffee.. and really doesn't make me feel so good. So this morning woke up with a major headache.. with drawals... yuk.. but ate some breakfast and took some tyelonol... feeling better.

The other thing I need to work on.. is to stop eating junk food at night. So for two nights I stop eating anything by 7pm.... I'm reaizing these are things I can do that will help my overall calorie intake..

Other thing... alcohol... once in a while I like a glass or two of wine.. or beer.. but that does not make me feel so good.. the next day.. seriously.. one glass? So I've cut that out completely... The coffee and alcholic beverages will be for special occasions.. Make them treats... I enjoy them while having them... but the coffee becomes an addictive habit, where you NEED it.. The alchol is enjoyable while relaxing.. but makes me feel sluggish the next day. The goal here is to feel good... why drink or eat anything that you know makes you feel like crap.

So baby steps... posting food, movement daily, cut out coffee... cut out any alchol...and stop eating by 7pm... to bed by 10 ish.. emoticon

Ok I weighed myself this morning. I've not been very good with the food portion of the "plan".
I've gained.. 185.5 I'm -5 over my beginning weight here on sparks!....

Any how... i've added another goal.. I will begin to post all food eaten at least 5 days a week.
Along with doing 10 min of excercise 5 days a week from the challenge i'm doing.. I've also put in for 7 days a week.. my own personal goal.

this will be the focus for the next two weeks... I believe writing and seeing my calories and how I feel.. will be a big motivator to do better..

Thank you motivator! You are well named. :-)
Yes onenel exercise is such a stress reducer. Seems like all I can handle is 10 minutes a day right now. maybe more.. but I so notice how much better I feel. Pretty soon I will be mostly in doors as well... we have been having weird weather... really cold one day then in the 40-50's.. so soon enough...

Firebug There those who use resistance training and those who resist to training. Putting feelings and emotions aside and stick with Logic and Reasoning. keep on hand exercise equipment like hand springs, leg weights, stretch bands, hand weights.
Do "Jump start Your Day" by exercising and stretching before you get out of bed. Going to the gym 3 days a week I discovered is enough to get by, but going 4-5 days a week makes a big difference. That is how I lost over 40 pounds and hope I never ever find it. Working hard to reach your goals then You can cut back, but then again you may be doing cross training like more walking, bike riding,or swimming. That is what I do, A Healthy Life Style has it's Rewards waiting for You emoticon

Good for you Firebug!!!

It is a stressful time of the year for many, going for a walk is a very good idea. I love walking- to me that is time to relax and just think. I live in N MN so once it gets cold, I pretty much stay indoors.

Habits are much easier if it is something that you enjoy. You are doing great on the fitness!! emoticon

Onenel Thank you for pointing that out.. I didn't know you could switch out the one item.. that could be very handy and more of what I would eat.. I'll have to give that a try.. in the future..for now its a miracle I come here daily ... habits all good habits.. is the goal! posting activity and food eaten.. good and bad.. for now. day 2 of challenge.. yeah..
I was stressing about things... my grown daughters.. the holiday.. so went for a walk instead of pigging out.. and had a healthful salad with chicken breast... I feel good .. minute by minute.. day by day...

Not sure if you noticed but on the meal plans- if there is any foods (not just the whole meals) that you want to switch, you can do that. Click on the food and you will get a list of other options to choose from.
I think the main thing is the combination of foods. protein, dairy, carbs. Following the meal plans help me to get the right combinations. I do sub a lot- but that is okay emoticon

nicole you can do it! Sounds like you are on the right track ,and you are motivated. Making the changes we need to do are hard but will be so worth it as you feel better and are healthier.
Keep moving it forward.. for me its baby steps.. I can't seem to do it all at the same time. so just posting my food and concentrating on the 10 min a day exercise is plenty for me.. The food part is not perfect.. but If I at least get in the habit of posting it.. then I can start tweaking it later on.. and good for you to get involved and volunteering.. its such a good feeling.

I was like you never giving it my all... so hopefully now we can both move forward. You'll know when its right to go to the Y... just do what is good for you now.. and good for you for doing it on your own! hugs Diane..

I am back! To be honest, when I first joined this site, I never really gave it my all! I never followed the diets, and other than going to the gym here and there, that was the extent of my effort!
Its been about 2 weeks or so since I've been back on this site, and I have been putting more effort in every single day. I lost my job a few months back, so I am on a fixed income, so I find it really difficult at the moment to follow the diet, as I hyphen the money to buy the things on the grocery list.
January should be better, and I am really looking forward to putting my all into the program. I've got a membership at the Y, but I hyphen gone yet, because I feel insecure about the way I look. obviously, my self-esteem has suffered greatly, due to my increased weight. However, I AM doing workouts at home, and every day that I do cardio, my strength ex., and take my dog for walks-I get even MORE motivated.
I am even trying to get involved with our community. I have changes to make, but I feel really confident that my whole life is about to change, if I keep moving forward.

So welcome Diane- it happens to us all.

We are our own worst enemies- we have to learn to treat ourselves as kindly as we treat others. You wouldn't get down on a friend for having a bad few days- don't do it to yourself. (Easier said than done- but something to think about.)

I must admit, this weekend I fell slightly off the wagon. The holidays do a number on me. Between the stress of keeping everyone happy. and stress at work. The keeping everyone happy is mostly in my head.. I have cut back and really know how to say no. I let the demons rise up and make me a bit crazy.. I turn to food to sooth and feel better.

So again its all in the head.. its my stinkin thinkin.. Why I allow it to mess me up? I guess that is stronger than the will to do what is good for me. Its a muscle I am still working on. To change how I think. To be positive. and do what is healthy for me.. Little by little I will get there.

Thanks to a little birdie who checked in on me.. snapped me back to what I am trying to do... scary thought.. I could have just not come back for maybe a week. or more. But will only be messed up for 2-3 days..
ONward and forward.. I go. emoticon

thanks Onenel

I've been to the gym 3 times since I have recommitted.. I really like it. There is always that little voice that says oh maybe you should just go home.. and get xyz done... but I over rode that voice.. and went today.

I worked upper and lower using cybex equipment
and elliptical 20 minutes..

what is good is I have a note book. and I am keep track of weights and sets done. This way I can be sure to continue to improve..

The candy bars are fine- just track them. I found if I deny myself something- I tend to crave it more- then tend to really overdo it.
Have the treat (in moderation), track and cut back some place else.

Food wise- it really helped me to eat a good breakfast. I have had to go by the meal plans a lot at first to get in the habit of eating the right combinations of foods.

Good job at going to the gym!

You sound like you are in the same boat as me! I can so relate to everything you wrote. I am very motivated to go to the gym.. because I feel so darn good when I go! My goal for december is to go to the gym at least 3 times a week... that is the consistancy nene in the previous post mentioned.. I'm still in the early stages but plan on increasing the number of days. but my big thing right now is the food is not so good... I think I like the idea of doing a shake... for one of my meals... Oh well I guess one step at a time..
It is very good to post all the food.. ALL of it... lol I use to stop posting when things went horribly wrong.. like today... :-( Had two hershey bars.. for ride home from groc shopping tonight.. but hey tomorrow is a new day.. I havn't given up..

Good morning,
Well I joined a few weeks ago and started on a the Body by Vi shake program. I just really need to start being accountable and being more active on the message boards so I can get motivation and inspiration from everyone else on the journey. I have been doing ok but not great, the shakes are great and that is not hard to stick to, its eliminating the junk food and cutting out the stress eating! I have been so busy with work and life that I tend to grab for the sweets too often! Plus my motivation to get to the gym has been sidetracked by the need to sleep in! So its time to get serious and stop making excuses. I definitely am starting to realize and pay more attention to what I am putting into my mouth and realizing how many calories I am actually consuming without thinking about it. I have very little energy these days and I know if I just get on track that my energy will increase and I will start to feel better. So here's to today and taking it one step at a time and wishing everyone an excellent day :-)

This is a poem by Erik Hajer... from his newsletter...

The Wagon by Erik Hajer
I've fallen off the wagon what should I do?
Ask myself why and lament in a stew?
No not I, I will not do that, I'll start today and take another crack
You see this is my life, this is my ride,
today is a new day and I get to decide
I may not be perfect and that's ok,
I'm on my own journey and I'm doing it my way
So wagon I thank you for reminding me how
to forget the past and focus on the now!
Take away: Forget New Years resolutions and resolve today to make quality decisions that support your fitness and wellness.
Remember, everything counts!
Live Fit & Be Well,
Erik

Keep pushing forward!! Every step you take towards your goal is a step in the right direction. It can get very hard sometimes and life likes to throw even more at us! But we have to stand strong against it and keep pushing forward! At least that's what I'm doing this time around.

I need to update my wt tracker.. I've only lost 2.8 since starting here.. typical!
so I weigh at the moment 182.2 its ok.. I realize no effort in you get nothing out of it.. I suppose the bright side of this I have not gained or gone over the beginning weight.

So today.. the plan is to post all my food. and physical activity and to journal here on sparks.

I have a member ship on line to south beach. I still really like the program and need to work it for me.. but honestly.. If I were to cut out the night time noshing and up my exercise I could really have success! I know I can. BUT and that is a big BUT.. what causes me not to achieve my goals? Is all in my head... the emotional eating.. the emotional head stuff.

I really need to focus on what I think , I "think" I want that " fill in the blank" therefore I feel I NEED that food... I don't need ANYTHING that does not feed my body healthfully.. Or eating in a way that does not serve me.. Like eating late.. eating junk, if I'm really hungry fruit is just is good and better... It is learning a new way to think.. I need to change I want to I don't need that... I need to think am I really hungry here? or do I need to feed something else? Meaning.. am I lonely? Sad? They are just thoughts.. they don't rule me... Its amazing how one thought or feeling can send you into a spiral.. and before you know it.. you have had food.. that don't fix the problem.. it may dull that hurt feeling. or sadness or gave you something to do because of boredom...

I've read this over and over.. but it hasn't sunk in.. sigh.. I'm a slow learner.. But having said that I have to realize only I can do this .. only I can change my thoughts and shift my actions..
so here I go...A fresh start...

Ok I just can't stand myself.. I get all exited.. do it for 2 days.. then as usual life gets in the way... So sick of it. all of it. The excuses..

Time to get serious. Fast track.....

exercise at least 10 minutes a day.
Eat two servins of fruits or veg a day
and to journal 3 times a week...

Small steps at a time..

Make sure to drink alot of freaking water. Whenever I feel like emotionally eating, I drink a huge glass of water and I dont have any room for food left!

Also I'm pretty sure that most of my attempts at eating healthy have failed miserably because I was too excited and went full force into it. I would hate to see the same thing happen to anybody else. Take it a day at a time.

One thing that I have changed from past attempts that has really been working is not having a weight goal in mind, but a distance goal or a repetition goal that improves little by little every week. I up my running distance one city block every week and I've lost weight without even thinking about it!

We have similar goals. I actually started at 180 a couple months ago. It's amazing what losing even ten pounds will make you feel. We've only just begun...haha. :)

Day2 Horrid in some ways Good in other ways.

I did lousy on the food portion today.. I just plain over ate.. and and felt stuffed.. Its emotional eating.. feeling insecure, things at work. I am shy to a certain extent.. and somtimes I feel so insecure..

But what was good? I got up early and went to the gym.. Yup 5am.. I normally get up that time but spend my whole morning eating and drinking coffee and surfing the web, or watching tv. I figured why not just get up, get my work out clothes on... and then eat breakfast at work..
I did 15 min on eliptical machine..
Some wieight lifting upper body..
and some abd work..

Not much.. I was just happy to get moving again..

I felt a little out of sorts.. all around today.. I will plan to go tomorrow morning again.. looking to have a streak... of excercising.. make it a habbit...

How many times must I do this? This on again off again. Eating poorly ,then eating well.. Exercise not exercise..
I mindlessly eat, mostly it boredom, sadness, emotional. eating.
Exercise is pure laziness.. Habit have set in. I come home.. I park my but in my chair and watch tv.. alot.. and even eat my dinner in front of the tv... MINDLESS

My goal is to shake it up... Instead of mindless.. I will be MINDFUL! No more excuses... Everyday.. putting the plan into place. I'm worth it, I want my life back. to be happy ,feel good in my own skin, and have fun!

Sitting and watching tv and eating is a slow way to kill my self and live a very unfulfilled life!

So I will be using this journal to talk and think through my goals, my challenges on my journey back to a health happy life.

I'm 53... soon to be 54 dam.. I will be 40 pounds down by my 55 birthday.. November 2012
I can do this in a year.. maybe in shorter time.. but my goal is slow but sure.

So Day1 i'm just getting geared up.. tomorrow the hard work starts...
Questions to ask my self.. When will I exercise? and what will I eat...
Diane emoticon today is a good day.. the beginning of the rest of my life.
