Welcome to Sparkpeople!

I love your username. My 28 year old son is so into dragons. He has shelves full of them and even a realistic "fursuit" he wears to conventions! It's quite amazing.

Being realistic is the first step forward in this journey. The nutrition and fitness trackers are so helpful. I think making your health a priority is a wonderful thing.

Poke around the site - try the exercise videos and demos, read the articles, try a few spark recipes, join a team or two of common interests/goals and read personal blogs. You can begin with one of mine:

Whatever you do - don't give up. The destination is not optional, the journey begins!

Press On!

Welcome to Spark People. There is so much information available to you here. There are teams that you can join that offer support, inspiration and motivation with members of pretty much any interest that you may seek. The food & fitness trackers are invaluable sources at your disposal. There are articles that cover pretty much any topic that you can imagine. Spark people members share blogs that offer you a glimpse at their experience, strength and hope and gives you a look at their perspective. There are health articles and a vast health encyclopedia, if you will, to help you with all manner of physical health issues. There are even games to help you get involved and meet new friends. This is a wonderful positive community of people, like yourself, who want to work their "weigh down" the scale on the path to better health and happiness. Jump in and get involved. I find that the more active I am, the more I get out of it for myself. It's sort of like "paying it forward" and reaping benefits from the backwash! I am so happy that you are here. Bright blessings to you my friend. emoticon Dawn

Well, I finally decided to give SparkPeople a shot. I have friends involved, and I do know it's easier to lose weight when you're not alone.
I'm putting any serious efforts aside for a couple of weeks, due to a bad (really, really bad) tooth. Oral surgery to remove one molar from each side (actually TWO really bad teeth!) is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 16, and I'll be on mashed potatoes, soup, and mac & cheese for a few days after that. (OK, I'm taking advantage of the soft-foods stage: mashed potatoes and mac & cheese are my comfort foods--but the potatoes are homemade, so I know the amount of fat in them, and the mac & cheese is Lean Cuisine, so I'm hoping not to gain 20 lbs while I'm suffering!)
Right now I'm limited in my food choices due to mouth discomfort. I look forward to going back to raw fruits, veggies, etc.!
