I've had pretty good luck using coconut palm sugar with baking...It is lower on the glycemic scale and slightly less calories. I also like sucanat and agave nectar for sweeteners.

I had pretty good luck with the following healthier changes to cookie recipes:

Replace all purpose flour with white whole wheat flour (White, not traditional!!!)

Replace butter with 50-50 blend of fat free cream cheese and light butter (results in a 75% reduction in fat!) Note: This also works for frosting recipes

Replace eggs with equivalent amount of egg whites - I don't waste whole eggs, I get the cartoons of pure egg whites)

If recipe calls for nuts, chocolate chips, or small candies I agree with the spark article (half the amount)
