Putting Body Glide on your feet can help. Don't go with too tight of a shoe. You need room in the toe box for your toes to spread out to function properly as you run. As mentioned, specific running socks can help a lot. I only tend to need the Body Glide for runs over 10 miles. Blistering shouldn't be an issue on shorter runs.

@Looking-for-me: where are the seams on your socks? I have some trouser socks with a seam across the toe (instead of a tube sock style). When I make the mistake of wearing the socks I wore to work instead of changing to workout socks when I change to my workout clothes, I always regret it! That blasted seam gets my little toes every time.
I read an article years ago in a running magazine that suggested duct tape. It works fabulously. I put it where I get blisters and I don't have any trouble at all, and it doesn't leave a sticky residue on your skin.
I would probably wait till the blister healed though, in the mean time, I would use a band-aid and then possibly put the duct tape over it.
I didn't want to post this, because I fear I look like a crazy person, but it works so well, I just had to.

I've found that I don't get blisters when I wear sport socks. I go to TJ Maxx to get my socks - I can usually find a good deal

Plasters are what they call Bandaids over the pond. ;) (Adhesive bandages.)
Plaster is short for adhesive plaster or adhesive tape on this side of the water.

I'm not sure if you are a indoor and outdoor runner but I find when I run indoors on the treadmill I have to change up my socks. I have to use wicking socks that are a bit tighter - maybe not compression socks but those that are made for running. The belt on the treadmill seems to warm up do to the rotation and your feet pounding on it. So I have found there no 100% cure but the socks do help minimize the issue. Good Luck!
Thanks everyone, So I think it was my shoes where a bit too loose, I never realized that having your shoes loose could cause blisters! I also switched socks and went with a sport sock and got no new blisters after my run! I am curious to what is plaster though?

If you already have fitted shoes, I would definitely look into different socks. I feel like my life changed when I got new running socks. Yes, my favorite pair were $15, but I also have some cheaper moisture-wicking sporty socks (from Target) that work well.
As Unident said blisters are caused by friction, they are second degree burns caused by the heat generated by friction. Friction is caused by movement over a fixed object so you have some problem with your shoes. If you are wearing cotton socks and your feet sweat that could the problem, when wet they will bunch up underfoot. I suggest you invest in 95% polyester workout socks to wear. Check both the fit and tightness of your shoes when you have them on for workouts.
Blisters come from friction. Perhaps the shoes have bent a bit right there, the feet have swollen a little, or your sock was bunched up at that specific point on that specific day.
Cover it with a plaster while it heals up and don't worry about it unless it happens again.
If you consistently get blisters in the same spot, look at your shoes and socks. Try to work out how your foot moves and see if it rubs at that point. You can consider new shoes or socks, or if that's not an option you might get away with vaseline on the spot so that it reduces the friction.
So after doing a mile on the treadmil last night I am starting to get a blister in the instep or arch of my foot, which is odd because I have never blistered there before and my shoes are still in great shape, any advice on how or why or prevention?
