If my hubby doesn't want to eat what I cook, then he is on his own. He doesn't mind since he knows how to cook just as well as I do. Sometimes, like last night, he will go out for a Subway sandwich instead of cooking his own meal.

I think we came up with a decent compromise last night. We had burgers. I had carrots. Him and the kids had mac and cheese. I don't like the powder mac and cheese anyways. Monday night is the real test to see if I have willpower or not. They are having spaghetti. I am having the sauce over zucchini. We will all have salad. I am still not crazy about having hot dogs in the house. I hate them but the girls will want them if they see daddy eating them. There are certain things I do not want my kids consuming, including processed meat. I am willing to make him Hamburger Helper for his work lunches, but I don't want the kids eating that either. I do make brown rice or quinoa for the girls sometimes. I'll just make extra for him and maybe some for the next day for him too. There are some things I'm just not ready to bring back in the house. I cannot have bread sitting in front of me. It won't last very long at all. I don't think there is any reason we need frozen meals,potato chips and cheez its in the house. I don't let the girls eat them. I don't need to eat them. BTW, I do 100% of the grocery shopping and cooking.

I'm cooking for myself, my not-picky spouse, and two children. So we usually have a meal with several things to ensure that everyone gets at least a couple of items they'll eat. I don't eat wheat, the kids don't eat as many different vegetables as we do, my spouse doesn't feel like it's a meal unless something died to provide it. How this works is, for example, last night we grilled chicken, carrots and zucchini separately and made rice. I ate the first three things; the kids ate chicken, carrots and rice; spouse ate everything. A couple of weeks ago I made lentil soup with veggies in it; the kids ate that. I ate soup and salad. My spouse sauteed some chorizo and added it.
In short: I wouldn't make a separate meal for your partner, but I think it's fine to say things like, "I'm roasting a chicken and steaming some broccoli, if you want to make some pasta to have on the side there's room on the stove for your pasta pot" or "I'm having a baked sweet potato with spicy ground beef on top, but since you said you wanted a hot dog I threw one in the microwave for you." If you're nice enough to do the majority of the cooking, he should be eating what you make (especially since he initiated the change in eating habits) and it's his responsibility to make junk food for himself, not yours to cater to him.

I agree with the previous poster. It may be that you changed things too quickly. By giving him the occasional meal that HE likes, you may find that he is satisfied with that.

Just an idea...maybe you could serve occasional meals "his way" but not make any major change over (especially since it was originally his suggestion re. paleo/primal). Maybe he is just craving a hot dog once in awhile? Or mac&cheese?
IMO don't change everyone over if what you are doing is working well for you. I usually try to find things that please my husband, but the bottom line has always been: "If you really don't like what I've fixed for dinner (in particular) then you are welcome to make what you would like for yourself."

I eat primal for the most part (I say primal not paleo because I eat dairy) and my boyfriend definitely does not. Breakfast is pretty easy we either split a bacon egg breakfast or fend for ourselves in the morning. For lunch I pack my own (I blog my lunches on my page if you want some ideas) and he usually eats at our local cafe so thats easy. Dinner has become our compromise. He cooks mostly. Usually some form of meat with beans, tomatoes or rice/pasta (we use rice pasta because I'm gluten intolerant). If he chooses to do legumes or grains than I eat a little bit and try to add veggies. I am not strict primal. We can't afford the grass fed, not that our grocer offers it anyway. We eat game meat when we can and otherwise I try to make the best choices given what we got. And the other commenter is right, if he's really set on eating crap then let him make it. Compromise is good, find what works for you the best. It's easy to start making excuses to eat like crap if your partner is but I've learned its worth the little bit of effort.
Make him get in the kitchen and prepare his own meals?

I mostly eat Primal. My husband turned me on to it several months ago. When I eat what I am supposed to, I feel fabulous. The biggest problem is my husband is now tired of eating that way. He wants to go back to eating pasta, prepackaged "food" and processed meat like hot dogs. I am a SAHM, but I already spend way too much time in the kitchen. I just don't feel like making two different meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am also afraid that I'll end up just eating what I make for him. Any suggestions?
