Nanley

I guess it would be logical to record the time in the weight field as well.

But 1 plank = 1 set.

M@L, thanks for the info on recording planks! I've been doing it wrong all along--just recording one plank as one rep, with the time held in the time field. I'm also well past 2 minutes, so now I know it's time to increase the difficulty.

Pretty much the same rules apply to planks as to any other strength exercise. 2-3 sets. And rest 48-72 hours before your next session of planks.

Thanks M@L! That helps a lot. How many sets/planks should I aim for? Is it ok to do them everyday? I prefer these to crunches.

In term of recording planks, 1 plank is 1 set, and record the number of seconds you held it in the reps column.

Probably start with holding a plank for 30 seconds. If you can do this comfortably, then hold it for longer next time.

I'm not sure I have seen anything firm on this, but once you can hold a plank for 2 minutes, it's probably time to move up to a more challenging version of the plank. From modified plank to plank, or from plank to single leg plank.

I don't know how many planks to do or how long to hold the plank position. There are various answers to hold as long as you can and then repeat or do 1 plank for 1 minute. Most exercises there are repetitions and sets listed. I know how to do a plank. I have done them before, but quit because I wasn't sure how many to do. I would like to know what is standard or normal so I know what to work towards so I am not doing too little or trying to do too much. Thanks!
