Congratulations on that 4 pounds. 4 - 6 per month is outstanding. Eating the candy... NOT so much. LOL but it happened and life goes on.
So the rest of the day and tomorrow.... What I do. and I might add if I DON'T do this I DON'T lose any weight. I track EVERYTHING I put in my mouth. I do 1 hour exercise per day and drink 10 glasses of water per day. Now again. That's ME. Tracking your food and planning your food is a great tool. However you do it Plan meals for the week or the day but make a plan and stick to it. NOTHING will get in your way. Cooking for your husband. No problems You are learning to eat EVERYDAY foods just changing how some things are prepared. ... Eat your Veggies......
You can do this. .... and as others said "This is NOT a DIET" it is your new Way of Life..

You must stop thinking of this as a diet, it must be a lifestyle. Don't do anything or eat/not eat anything if you don't think you can keep it up for the rest of your life.
A good example of this is the insanity workouts you mentioned. If you are not enjoying doing them, then stop now! Start doing something you do enjoy. If you don't like it you will not be doing it a couple months later, and being able to stick to the lifestyle is what will get you where you want to be. It doesn't really matter what exercise you do as long as you love it. And keepin mind that your eating habits are more important to weight loss than your exercise.

Welcome to Spark People ! I give all new members one piece of advice when they start and it's this,"Don't look at good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction.
Good health and weight loss is not "all or nothing". Remember, you're trying to change habits learned over a life time. that's not going to happen overnight, a week, a month or even a year. change takes time. thus the need to be patient with yourself and your body. That's why it's important to start with simple changes first. Don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated.
Set some simple goals. Example, if you're not eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, set a goal to eat 2-3 servings each day for one week. If you're not drinking 8 glasses of water, set a goal to drink 2-4 glasses each day for one week. If you're not exercising, don't try to exercise for an hour a day, set a goal to take a 30 minute walk each day for one week. Once you've achieved these goals, then you set new ones.
And that's how good health starts. it doesn't start with a DIET. it starts with a few simple changes you can stick with. Because the others are right. If you look at this as a diet, you'll lose the weight and just end up regaining it later. if you want to take the weight off and keep it off, this must be a life style change. And that's why you can't beat yourself up because you're not perfect. you don't have to be perfect to be healthy.
Start with some simple changes first. Don't beat yourself up because you ate 1800 calories worth of candy. That's one day out of many. the journey towards good health is long, but it will be rewarding.

If you look at this journey as a temporary means until you lose the weight, there's a good chance you will eventually regain the weight. The reason, you must make this a lifestyle. This is why deprivation diets don't work...there's too much temptation to give in. But when you allow all foods in moderation and with careful planning you are laying down the foundation for life-long healthy habits so that you never have to do this again.
If you do not feel in control of the candy, then you may have to avoid those trigger foods until you get control over developing your habits. It took me 3 1/2 years to lose 80 pounds--roughly 4-6 ounces a week--yep ounces--but I am proud to say that I reached my goal 5 years ago and I have kept the weight off the first time ever in my 51 years.
You can do this!

I agree 4 lbs a week sounds dead on to me...boy I wish I could lose that fast...I think my issue is not enough exercise. Anyway I also agree don't keep things in the house you will binge on. I just dont keep things in the house that I will binge on...I don't binge on soda but I will drink 1 or 2 a day or 3 if I have it in the house so I don't keep kinds I like in the house. If I am at a party or out to eat I occasionally let myself have some then as a treat but I don't keep in the house for everyday consumption. So that does help me to not keep things in the house I will eat or drink too much of.

Four pounds in January is actually dead-on, considering it averages out to about a pound a week, which is an extremely healthy rate of weight loss, so that shouldn't have discouraged you, I'm sorry that it did.
As for candy, you certainly can work it in to your calorie allowance, but if you find there's a certain food you can't eat without binging, I'd plan on cutting it out for now - stop buying it, and stop going to places where you know you can get it.
As for the Insanity workout, it will get better, but also, keep in mind that you don't have to start out doing something so crazy. You mentioned having a gym, why not just try walking on the treadmill at first? It sounds like you may be trying to do too much at once, start slower and be patient with yourself.

For some reason I have a really hard time dieting.. I've done it before and had no issues.. But something has changed and I don't know what that is.. I have an issue with candy.. I seriously ate 1800 calories worth of candy today.. It is pretty embarrassing when I think that I could eat that much.. the culprit is reeses whoppers there so freaking addicting its not even funny.. I also seem to hate exercising now.. I used to like doing it.. I have a gym in my apt complex and i have some workout dvds.. but the insanity fast & furious one makes me outta breath the first 3 minutes and I wonder if that will ever change.. I stuck to a diet in January for the whole month and only lost 4 pds which is kinda discouraging bc i was working really hard working out everyday only taking one day off a week. I don't know how to stay motivated. Some people say you can have some candy but limit yourself.. but then I can't seem to cause i got into binging lately.. This is so hard i don't know how to stick with it.. Anybody have any pointers? I would really love to lose this 33pds but feeling like it will never workout for me.
