Similar to the mouthwash trick, strong chewing gum, as it's easy to carry, and the flavor usually will be strong enough to keep you from putting something sweet in after it.. especially if you keep chewing past the temptation!
I try my best to just walk away... tough when you work in a bakery all day! Been getting better at it though.

responding to Endless-Renewal from 5/11: I know that moment! You could yank the snack bag from the evil tempter/temptress and stomp the treats into oblivion..well, ok, only in your minds'eye or you could try chewing a sweet flavored gum or drinking unsweetened tea. I tend to have less willpower at night so I'm experimenting with using mouthwash around the 8pm hour as I usually want whatever anyone else is snacking on around that time.

I definitely use Holly's water tip. And I find that once I start, I have trouble stopping, so I don't even let myself start.
If you have a healthy snack before heading out, you will know its not really hunger, and be able to say no easier.

I have found if I'm around others it's easier--I try to focus on what they are saying. I also keep ice water with me at all times. When the urge to snack gets high I take a sip of cold, sweet, pure water and think about how wonderful it is!!

Think about the weight you have already shed off. Think of all the time and effort you have put into losing that weight. Ask yourself is this temptation worth it? Keep a health treat with you at all times.
Whenever there's a bag of chips or plate of cookie in front of me (especially if I'm at a friend's house) I find it nearly impossible to limit my eating! It's easy to just push the bag or plate away, but what if the person next to you is eating them? What mental tricks do you use?
