I absolutely love to exercise and try new things. I don't ever remember a time, even when I was young, that I did not feel my best and enjoy life the most when I was being active. (I guess that makes sense given I'm a personal trainer now.)
In addition to finding activities you enjoy, I would start changing the way I talk and think about it so you start forming more positive mental imagery regarding exercise. Sure, you won't go from "I hate to exercise" to say "I love exercising" but you can start saying, "I feel so energized after I work out," "I'm not so fatigued and I sleep better now that I'm exercising."
For me, I get this high when I just kill it in the gym and the rush keeps me coming back. The other day I did this awesome kettlebell workout that kicked my butt. When I was done, it was like I could feel every individual cell in my body alive and tingling with energy. The endorphin rush was phenomenal. I hope you stick with it and feel this one day as well.

I never really like the thought of going to exercise, but I've learned to like how I feel during, and especially, afterward. And there's nothing quite so nice as walking up a flight of stairs and not being winded. Ive learned to respect myself and love myself through making exercise a habit.

I never want to work out. I'd always rather sit on the couch and relax... My rational mind knows that I feel better after I work out, but my monkey mind tells me that it's so much effort and a nap would be grand.
But I do manage to get to the gym 3 times a week because I tell myself I have to show up like it's my job. I remind myself that a crappy workout is better than regretting a missed workout. I also draw on some inspirational messages on my vision collage (pinterest inspiration board).
I always feel good when I work out... even if I'm tired, I feel energized by the time I get 5 minutes into exercising. So the biggest thing for me is to "show up" and get started - momentum will take care of the rest from there.
One other trick I thought of - I found that I could read on my Kindle while on the elliptical or walking on the treadmill (the font size can be increased and it lays flat on the control panel, unlike a regular book). So I started getting Kindle books that I only allowed myself to read while exercising. This gave me a positive reinforcement to exercise, and I was able to work up from 20 minutes to a full hour of exercise because I would get absorbed in the book and want to keep reading. You could try the same thing with a favorite podcast or TV show, too.

keep making yourself go and eventually you'll like it. If walking is what you chose, make a game out of it - today I'll walk to the end of the street, tomorrow I'll walk to the end of the street and down the next one, etc. When you've reached your maximum distance then start playing with the times.

Try a couple different things, find something that you enjoy. It's always more fun for me when I listen to music while working out, it puts me in a good mood and makes the workout go faster. Another thing that helps me I feel amazing after I work out, I feel more motivated and energized, so while I'm working out I focus on the after feeling.

I'm not paid advertiser or anything, but I would suggest the book "The 8 Colors of Fitness". It determines Your fitness personality (You can also take the free quiz here the8colorsoffitness.com/book/index.php?opt ion=com_wrapper&Itemid=8 ) so you know a bit better about yourself. For me, it contains lot of useful information and is really accurate. It doesn't really give you any exact plan, but only tips and such. And I agree with others, try out different things and do the ones that suit you most. A common mistake that beginners make is that they start doing very intense programs and don't take rest days.
Most trainers suggest something more close to a low-medium intensity activity for 30-45 minutes about 3x a week for a start (it depends a lot on your fitness levels too) and give it a month to settle.
I think the best thing you can do is try to find an activity you actually enjoy.
Some people enjoy walking. Try walking around your neighborhood, rather than just a treadmill. Or even better, find a nearby park.
Some people love Zumba or dance DVD's. It's dancing, right, and dancing is fun, not a 'work' out.
Some people love the social aspects of a group fitness class at the gym. For others, working out in public is their worst nightmare. Some people find yoga to be relaxing and enjoyable, as well as being great for their body.
Others like to make a 'game' of exercise, whether this is through 'sports' video games such as the Wii, or tennis, etc.
In short, there are many, many forms of exercise. Keep trying until you find one that works for you.
Also, I think it helps to try to work out at the same time each day - this helps it become part of your routine, rather than something you need to get specifically motivated for.
The other good thing about establishing a habit of regular exercise is that it only takes a couple of weeks to see noticeable improvements in your fitness. What was a challenging workout before becomes easier, and a lot less intimidating. Just focus on exercising REGULARLY, even if it is just 10 minutes a day.

Find something you enjoy! You're never going to stick with it if you keep doing something you don't like.
The more you do it, and make a habit of it, the more you will look forward to it, or at least feel like something is off if you miss a workout. It is possible to learn to enjoy things that you originally didn't like. If you'd told me two years ago that I'd enjoy going out for a 5 mile run, I would have said you were nuts, but now I really look forward to it and don't feel right if I can't go running.
It's not something that happens over night, but rather something you have to keep at over the long haul and make into a habit. Then one day you'll wake up and realize that you like it, or at least don't dislike it. Also, the fitter you get, the easier exercise is, so the easier it is to enjoy.

I found setting goals helped because when I hit them I felt so proud and couldn't wait to set another. I started with the Wii Fit and Biggest Loser for the Wii - and would do it every other day at a minimum and found trying to do harder levels kept me going because it felt so good to be able to do things I had never done before. Then I decided to bring my workouts outside - I started with walking - I set a goal to walk 3.1 miles in less than an hour and would keep trying harder till I got there, then I started a couch to 5k to train to run a 5k in less than 40minutes - it is amazing to run the race and have all these people cheering you on and it felt even better when I looked at the clock as I crossed the line at 32:43. You have to keep challenging yourself - you can set small goals and big goals - write them on a piece of paper that you put up at your desk or medicine cabinet to remind you! I found that once I really started working out hard my endorphines kicked in and I love my endorphines so now I love to exercise. Exercise is also something that helps me forget about the stress of work and the kids and everything else in the world - it is me and my workout - even now that I go to the gym I don't even notice everyone else when I am in the zone!
and I completely agree with Berta that there is never a day I regret exercising - only the days I decide to skip it!!

There are days I don't feel like exercising. Actually, I'm in sort of a slump, so there seem to be many days lately when I don't feel like exercising. However, there has NEVER been a time when, after I've exercised, I've said to myself, "Gee, I wish I didn't do that!" I know that after I exercise, I will feel great and be glad I did. That's what keeps me going.

I'm not sure that you will ever love to exercise, but you can learn to like if by finding an exercise (class, sport, individual work-out) that you don't actually dislike... when you start to see results, you will like it more.
You can't make yourself love exercise. You can, however, find something you love doing, keep doing it, and eventually you may find that you love exercise. That is what happened to me. I was always the girl who forgot her PE uniform so I wouldn't have to do PE at school. This year I found that I love boxing and ST, and I tolerate running (don't love it but it is a good option for when the gym is closed). Now I do love exercise because it is part of my lifestyle, and because I picked activities that I enjoy.

Ditto to what AJMarie posted. I do a number of things for my health that I don't really enjoy, from exercising when I would rather lay on the couch to brushing my teeth to eating to drinking 8 glasses of water. But these all are very important for my health, so I learned to incorporate them in my day because I love the feeling after I have completed them. And I ask myself frequently "Am I worth it?" I know I am.

Exercise isn't just about burning X amount of calories in Y amount of time. The benefits of exercise go far beyond the calorie burn. A regular exercise program can also reduce your risk for heart disease, cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis. It can increase your immune system and decrease depression.
Here are some simple things you could do that would help make your day more active without actually "exercising". Take the stairs instead of the escalator. When you go to the mall or grocery store, park at the far end of the lot and walk the extra way. If you take en elevator, get off one or two floors before your stop and walk up the stairs. If you take a bus or subway, get off one or two stops before and walk the extra way.
These things might not seem like much, but they are simple things you can do to make your day more active.
It's winter. When it snows, go outside and shovel as long as you are in reasonable health with no pre-existing medical conditions like a bad back or bad heart. Shoveling is fantastic exercise. How about skiing ? Do you like to ski ? Ice skate ? How about running, cycling, swimming, dance lessons, martial arts, tennis, basketball, soccer, hiking, golf, bowling, etc... exercise really can be just about anything.
Do you have a gym membership ? If so, check out the schedule and try a class. Zumba is lots of fun. that's a Latin dance based aerobics workout that wonderful cardiovascular exercise. If you don't have a gym membership, how about a DVD ? You don't even have to buy any DVDs, you could go to your local library. Take out a couple. try them. if you like them, buy them. If you don't, borrow some other ones.
Try different things until you DO find something you like for exercise. And it really can be just about anything. How about the martial arts ? or golf ? or gardening ? or shoveling snow or snow boarding or rock climbing. It's all good.
The last thing you want to be is sedentary. Too many studies are now confirming that a sedentary life style shortens your life. Don't be afraid to challenge your body by trying something new. Who knows, you might actually enjoy being active once you find that activity you really like.

As of two weeks ago, I detested exercise as well. However, last night I couldn't wait to exercise. Here's how I remind myself that I enjoy exercising: The way it makes me feel...the sense of empowerment, the alone time, the effort, the strength, the weight loss, the fact that know one else does it for you, the vitality, the after-glow, the endorphin rush. The fact that I feel like a BADASS!!!!! Start with the walk...a great place to start. Grow from there. Challenge yourself. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
