I work on the top floor of my building. I make it a challenge every hour to walk down, then up, the six flights of stairs. (13 steps per flight)

Mostly, I avoid the conveniences to which we have become so accustomed.
There's a Walmart, a Target, a Home Depot, and 2 supermarkets less than 3 miles from my house. In the Summer I often walk or cycle to the stores for small items. I often make that my cardio for the day.
When driving to the store, I park as far from the entrance as possible.
I use stairs instead of elevators or escalators, whenever possible.
I go up and down the stairs a lot...because I forget what I went for! Walk briskly around the very large supermarket -- sometimes go up & down all the aisles. Offer to "get" items for DH -- a habit since he's had 3 knee surgeries. He offers to do it himself, but I say, "I need the steps."
I don't watch TV, so I have more time to move around, walk down & back up the mtn. road at night. TV takes up a lot of free time, so I have a lot of extra time available to move.
Little things add up. When you go to pick up the mail take a five to ten minute walk. If you are going shopping park the car a few blocks away. You can make your own lunch, and either save the time you would of spent ordering, or going to purchase the food, and instead eat your lunch 20+ mins. ahead of your scheduled time, and then walk, take the stairs, window shop etc ...or do errands on your allotted lunch break. :)

I like to lunge walk when I am idling. If you are watching television you can stand and run on the spot. Always take the stairs, and I find morning routines easier to fit into my schedule.

I usually take a 20 minute walk on my lunch break and maybe 5 minute ones on my 15s. This is, of course, in addition to any planned exercise I have.

I find that wearing my running shoes all the time makes a big difference. If I'm getting a mental fog at work, I'll go for a 10 minute fast walk instead of a coffee, and I've just started walking to the train station instead of driving which adds a half hour of walking everyday (and like you said saves gas - the short trips seem to use it up a lot faster).

When I need a few items from Dollar General, I walk instead of drive. This gives me 10 minutes of movement I wouldn't get otherwise and I save money on gasoline.
