I go up and down but overall my trend is to stay going down. If it just keeps going up I readjust. It sounds easy but it's not.

Please do not use age as an excuse...weight loss is hard at any age. Use all that sparks has to offer....u can do this. Pull yourself together...hug yourself...and let's get this done.... /...I can say this cause at 58 I am in the best shape of my life....I plan on continuing..

I've done the same thing many times, and your right about being over 50! We need to work harder at losing. You were brave enough to step on the scale! Thats the first step to getting back on track!

I feel your pain as well. When I discovered Spark People it was the most useful diet tool I had ever found and I steadfastly lost 27 pounds - then disappeared. HEY, I looked great and tra la la, I went and gained weight back. WHY? Because I quit using the tracking system.

We all hate to deprive ourselves of good tasting food. But it Tastes sooooo much better when we do deprive ourselves - then enjoy a little of the deliciousness.

Right now I am back in the zone and after a couple of weeks, feel fantastic. It doesn't matter what I look like to others - I feel and look great to myself.

Don't beat yourself up (btw, love the title of your thread)

It's just time to "do it again". You did it once, you can do it again.

You can't beat yourself up because you regained some weight. That has happened to every single member of Spark at one time or another. We are all experts at gaining, losing and regaining the weight. That was the past. You can't change the past, but you CAN influence and change the future.

I give all new members one piece of advice and it's this,"Don't look at good health with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction.

Start with some simple changes first. Don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated. Set some simple goals. Example, if you're not eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, set a goal to eat 2-3 servings each day for one week. if you're not drinking 8 glasses of water, set a goal to drink 2-4 glasses each day for one week. if you're not exercising, don't start with an hour a day. set a goal to take a 30 minute walk each day for one week. Once you've achieved these goals, then you set new ones.

Do you log your food choices ? If not, I'm going to encourage you to start. Set up your SP nutrition profile and then go ahead and start logging. studies have shown that people who log their food choices lose more than those who don't.

Mostly, you are going to need to be patient. You didn't gain the weight overnight, it's not coming off overnight. Don't expect instantaneous results because it's not happening. Weight loss is a slow steady process that takes time.

I can assure you that IF you do your best to eat right, watch your portions and get a little regular exercise, the weight will come off with time. But you really do need to be patient with yourself and your body. No one ever became a healthy eater overnight.

Thank you! I was living under the fog of "I'm eating a healthy breakfast, so I'm ok." Obviously, I was not okay. I've got to get back to tracking and walking every single day! Being over 50 does NOT help matters!

I feel your pain. I lost 106lbs and managed to gain back 97lbs. I have no idea how, I mean, I know how, but it just snuck back on. I some how managed to go from a size 12 to a size 18 and never even bought new clothes, was just wearing a lot of stretchy clothes and otherwise squeezing myself into things like a sausage, not a good look.

You've done the hardest step, getting on the scale to see just how far you've fallen. Now you need to get up, dust yourself off, and just get back to work.

If you scroll down, you'll see a post titled "how to get past the self-loathing". There is a lot of great advice in that post about dusting yourself off and moving on. Good luck. We're all here to support you.

I just stepped on the scale and I can't stop crying. I lost (slowly) 20 pounds and have gained it all back! I'm have a fitbit and strive for my 10K each day and I'm trying to get back on track but this just sucks! emoticon
