definitely got straighter with losing weight - but although my hip to waist ratio is not perfect, my waist is now within the healthy size range....

I also lose faster off my hips than my belly. I'm an apple. :(

My waist to hip ratio has actully gotten worse as I have lost more weight off my hips than my waist. Both are smaller than they were -- but the ratio is less healthy. Depressing.

Yes! Sparkpeople has a calculator for that. And you can keep track of it with the measurments tracker.

How do you figure out your hip waist ratio? Is that something spark can calculate for you?

my hip-waist ratio did the same thing. I think it means good things for us since we are carrying less fat. emoticon

You haven't changed your body type. :) You've just removed the fat that makes you a particular shape.

I was happy to find that i am a .7. I trust it more than BMI anyday.

It's a sign of better health, if you believe the research. I personally DO believe the research. Grats on decreasing your risk for cardiovascular troubles!

Since I have been losing weight my hip-waist ratio has changed as well as the associated body type. I started off .84 hip-waist ratio, which is an avocado. But since I have lost weight that ratio is now .79, making me a pear. I didn't think that it was possible to change your body type/weight distribution. Or does this just indicate that I am now at lower risk for health risks associated with carrying one's weight around their mid-section?
