I second the remark about low-carb/high fat lifestyles. Fats satiate. You are very likely to nip hunger right at the base that way... as you have already noted! The flip side of that is that carbs can create cravings and "hunger" (ie - appetite). Between cutting one and adding the other, it makes sticking to your plan much easier.

Glad you've discovered for yourself that it's a workable lifestyle. Wish we could get others to consider the possibilities for themselves.

As others have said, high fat cuts the appetite. I suspect that this is for two reasons. The first is that fat is filling and takes longer to digest. The other is that high fat usually means much lower carbs. Lower carbs means lower insulin in your blood and that cuts your appetite.

Cutting high glycemic carbs helps control my appetite, by removing cravings, and by dropping my carbs down to 5-6 %, my fat ends up at 65-70% daily. I think it is a combo of the two. Fat satiates, but avoiding trigger foods is important also.

There are many high fat high carb trigger foods, like doughnuts, but not too many very high fat foods with few carbs, that cause cravings. People tend to not binge on mayonnaise, meat, or macadamia nuts.The lack of appetite helps eat lower calories, despite being more calories per gram.

I'm on a high fat diet for medical reasons. I aim to get 75% of my cals from healthy fats. Everything I've reaserched on it says it decreases your hunger. I still find myself starving after 3 hrs of not eating but most ppl can go longer than that. Glad you found something that works for you.

It is the basis of all high fat low carb diets. While some people do quite well on high carb low fat diets, others just don't do well, we are hungry all the time and we get cravings.

Knowing what satisfies your body is one of the first steps in effective weight control in my opinion.

For me it does, I'm very satisfied on my high fat diet!

Lunch today.

3 cups romaine
1/3 cup chopped cucumber
1 cup carrots, sticks
1 small avocado, chopped
2 strips of bacon, chopped
3 oz chicken fried in red palm oil and spiced

Dessert

Coffee with heavy cream
A couple pieces 80% dark chocolate

Consciously making sure that fat minimums were met by my nutrition made me overall happier with my plan and satisfied overall. I still do RF or FF dairy and some dressings because of texture issues, but largely have worked most of the artificial reduced stuff out.

Absolutely, fat helps you feel fuller. I don't buy any fat-free dairy products or salad dressings; a little fat is a good thing. The best meals have a combination of fiber, fats, protein, and carbohydrates; if you're starving all the time, increasing fat and protein can really help.

There's a whole world of truth about health and nutrition when we step outside the Standard American Diet and start implementing what was proven years ago. Keep your faith in what is good; that which is good, will bear good results.

I think it's because fats can be satiating. You feel more full and more satisfied.

I don't have a problem with fat - I looked one day at your tracker (I hate looking at others trackers!!) 69 grams of fat - that's not super high - someone on a low fat diet might faint...but in the end it's what is working for you, and that's all that matters.

Your diet might not work for someone else, my diet might not work for you..in the end your diet works for you!! Congratulations for finding it - a lot of people struggle, and sometimes it's painful to see someone beating themselves over the head because what they are doing isn't working.

Yep! It's why I don't buy 0% fat greek yogurt anymore. Our bodies take longer to digest fats and proteins than they do carbs so that's why a diet high in fat will keep you fuller longer. It's not eating fat that makes people fat (thanks out-dated 90's thinking), but eating too much of everything in general and not exercising. If you look at the low fat versions of popular snacks, they have more chemicals, sugar, and (generally) more calories than the high fat versions because fat is what makes things taste good and they have to replace that taste somehow.

I notice that whenever I eat a high-fat breakfast and lunch, it's much easier to stick to my calorie goals. If you look in my Nutrition Tracker for Wednesday the 22nd, I added a hot dog to my eggs and had lunch with some olive oil. I actually ate about 200 calories less than my range that day because I was too full when I got home. But I was 200 calories over range yesterday -- my fat levels were lower, and I was starving at the end of the day. (But, luckily, as soon as I ate a Quest bar, I was satisfied.)

I also took a quiz that I saw in a Jillian Michaels book which told me that I am a fast oxidizer. As a fast oxidizer, I was advised to moderate my carb intake and focus on fats and protein. I don't believe in diets (I eat whatever I want -- whenever), but this has been helping me stay in calorie range.

Does anyone else notice that eating a lot of fat helps keep the overall calorie intake down?
