I'm 59 and we have rescue kitties too, as well as dogs. They seem to find our house by instinct. I'm part of Team 55+ women. Why don't you come over and check us out. It's a great place to find friends.

Some docs know too little about nutrition or exercise. You can keep track of your cholesterol over time adding healthy eating and activity. Show the doc your results. If she or he still doesn't get behind your healthy goals, time for a new doc.
I think many doctors have trouble talking to patients about their weight. My DH and I see the same doctor. She has no problem telling him he needs to exercise more (he is about 20 pounds overweight and has high cholesterol) but she doesn't say much of anything to me.

Hello! Hopefully your doctor would like to see you get healthier! I swear some of them have pacts with the pharmaceutical companies!
Let me say you can do this! I think it's awesome that you want to get healthy, and that you want to start walking every day! I also think it's awesome that you rescued all of your kitties! I love cats!

Hi there. I love Spark People as it is so interactive and I love the calorie counting on line as well. My doctor does not say a word to me about my weight...she just gives pills...Lipitor for Cholesterol and Synthroid for thyroid, etc. She really does not give me any advice on losing weight which makes me wonder if she really wants me to...she might lose a patient if I got healthier. Anyhow, I love the concept of eating less and moving more. I love food and will not give up anything, just count it :) I have a real problem with starchy food...like noodles, bread, and rice. Once I cut my portions in half of these, I instantly lose weight. It's like magic. It takes a lot of willpower but it can be done and easily too. My husband is vegan so it takes a lot of thought process when it comes to making meals. I weigh 244 and my intent is to get down to 160. I am throwing on some gym shoes and I am going to start walking every day, even at work. Maybe even incorporate a few daily exercises at home as well. I get another blood test in April as it's part of my physical. I want to see the changes my diet makes. I hope I can find some friends on this board. I am 58 years old, married, and have 12 kitties, all saved from a horrible fate. We would not trade them for billions of dollars :) In lots of ways, they have saved us
