Gee, I had no idea about the muscle stuff. I guess I could be expecting too much too soon. I tend to be a bit impatient. I will keep up the activity and hope for the best. It is hard to know what is a reasonable goal when you haven't done this in so long. I can certainly give myself a goal of exercising at least 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. If I do more great, but not less. Thanks for the comments. They really help.

Hi bigthinker, welcome to Spark,i'm new here too and trying to stay motivated .It's not easy but don't give up. Try and set a realistic goal and stick with it. I'm still trying to figure out how to use all of the things they have on here.As we get older we do gain weight, were just not as active as we were when we were younger, that's for sure. I've been fighting with my weight since i was 18,and now that i'm 56 on Monday,it's just harder to get off. I started gaining more a few years ago,and it's hard to get back off. Having a few health problems doesn't help. But i keep trying. If i can't loose anymore, i would at least like to try and maintain what i do have, lol. Just don't give up sweety and i wont either. Feel free to send me a message anytime you want. Good Luck!

Hi Bigthinker. I read an article here on sparks about gain weight when you first start out. They said that was normal because when you start working out your muscles retain water...they said for some people this transitions took up to six weeks...so take your measurements. I've lost more in inches than I have in weight. It is a daily choice and some days are easier than others.

I sure could use a buddy or two to help me with inspiration to keep me motivated. I will be 55 in November and have gained more weight than I care to admit through the years. I just can't seem to get the nutrition and the exercise to work. This week I thought I was doing well since I was able to exercise over 480 minutes walking (walked 6 of 7 days). I thought I was eating well but I still gained .5 pounds. I really don't know what I am doing wrong. I do enjoy the walking on the Wii with this game I got called Walk It Out. Especially since by the time I get home from work, it is still to hot to walk outside comfortably. How do you manage the two aspects of healthy living. I really want to figure this out before I get frustrated and quit. Comments welcome.

Hi!
My name is Carroll and I joined SP July 11. I was looking for a Spark Buddy and here is a whole forum/topic! Hope it is not too late to join in.

I am 66 years old and have been fighting a weight battle my whole life. I lost 100 lbs back in the 90's by liquid diet fasting but didn't learn a new life style to keep the weight off. Now I've gained the 100 plus 25 more. I've weighed myself every morning for years, but felt convinced that I was a "food addict" and couldn't go "cold turkey" again (by fasting, for example).

Then I got mad at myself (maybe just confronted my anger). I decided to explore (1) therapy (2) nutritionist (3) hypnotism. My many doctors recommended bariatric surgery, but the many after effects scared me too much. In my googling the possible experts in my geographic area in (1), (2), (3), somehow I found this site and started reading. Something clicked...

Thanks for letting me share, for reading (listening), for being there.

God bless you all,
Carroll

Traveled three hours to the city to take an Excel computer class. Will have to eat out for four meals. So far so good...half a deli sandwich for lunch and we went to red lobster for dinner and I didn't eat the rolls. Woo hoo! Managed to walk last night as well even though I'm not home. How is everyone doing?

Cameragal....so sorry. I told the wrong place to find your weight tracker ticker. Go to your spark page and click on edit my page and scroll down and you should find it there, anyway that's where mine is. Sorry about that!

Hi Jodi and Dorothy, glad to hear from both of you on the thread.

Cameragal....I think the ticker that your talking about is on your first page and click on measurements. Hope that helps!

Hope you all are having a wondeful day.

Welcome Lisa! Hey everyone. I kind of fellmoff the trackingnwagon these last four days. I have had six grandbabies and six adults in my home. I was able to hike two of those days but had anfew more treats than in should have since one son bought brownies and ice cream one night and the other son bought root beer floats the next night. I did try to maintain my healthy eating and only had a samll brownie. Back on tp tracking today! How have you been this week?

Hi, just got back from visiting my mother-in-law, which is close to the border of Canada. We had a great time celebrating her 89th b-day. She does so well for her age, still live in her home and does great. Hope I will do as well as her at that age.

Vernalgrandma, sorry to hear that your fibro was acting up. I know it's no fun....that's for sure. Mine hasn't acted up for some time now.....cross my fingers. Glad to hear you completed your hike and even lost some weight....such great news. emoticon emoticon

Hi everyone! I had two bad pain cycle days on my fibro, that's the bad news, the good news is they are only lasting a couple days instead of weeks. Yesterday I was able to complete my hike, a little slower but I did it. 202.5 was peeking out of the scale today. It has been a long time since I've seen that number. It is hard to believe that 2011 is half way gone. In 8 days my Arizona grandbabies will be here I'm so excited.
