Everyone is a little different and for some people 3 square meals a day is fine.

As far as calories, depending on your range, you should go with 100-250 calories per snack. Items with health fats, fiber, protein, fruits and vegetables are generally pretty good.

Choose items you like and expand from there. I usually have yogurt, or fruit, or some sort of veggie (I just love raw cucumber).

You can also check the sparkrecipes.com site and look for snacks there. Tons of options just depends on what you like.

For me I eat low sugar fruits like berries, apples, kiwi, peaches, pears and plums.

1/2 cup Cottage Cheese and a handful of Matchstick carrots, flaxseeds around 75 calories

1/2 Avocado with stuffed crabmeat 4 ounces crabmeat with mayo on a bed of lettuce about 6 carbs

3/4 cup of Multi Grain Cheerios for a crunchy, for fiber

Edys frozen fruit bars, three graham cracker squares, 10 baby Carrots with Ranch Dressing just to moisten & flavor.

3 cups of light popcorn (no salt, no butter) instead I use a little parm or romano sprinkled ontop.

20 Almonds, 4 walnuts for my heart health

Sargento Reduced Fat Provolone,1 Slice 50 Calories.

Deli roast beef is almost as low in fat as turkey. Two to three deli slices
are less than 150 calories.

Black olives stuffed with Laughing Cow reduced fat cream cheese to get some healty fat into my diet...I have 10-15 of them...and sometimes celery stuffed with the cream cheese or almond butter....

An egg with 70 calories as eggs have lots of vitamins...and when I have to have crunch I reach for Raw red or green peppers and dip them in salsa or hummus.

The "right way" is the way that brings YOU results. I know many people who have achieved their goal with 3 meals (or less).

if you want larger snacks you need to have smaller meals. if you want to skip snacks you can have larger meals. it doesn't matter which way you go so long as the calories add up at the end of the day.
i will say that plain fruit or veggies doesn't make a great snack. they're just carbs. and good snacks are comprised of carbs, fat and protein. so having some nuts or nut butter or a little cheese with the fruit would balance it out and keep you full a little longer.

Hi folks

So I am new to spark people and I am trying to improve my diet. I am monitoring what I eat and know that I should snack to keep my metabolism working rather than just eating 3 times a day. So my question is approximately how many calories or what size snack do I need to eat to achieve this. The lt few days I have used a banana as a snack and also a couple of oz of raisins. Is this sufficient or do I need to eat more to make it beneficial.

Thank you In advance, I am new to this watching what I eat and before when I have tried and failed to lose weight I have just stopped eating as much and tried working out more. It didn't work so want to try and figure it the right way to do it instead.

Les
