The food tracker is my favorite part of spark people, get to know it and know it well. Then I'd say go to the spark points page, not to get points but to learn your way around the site. It takes you everywhere, and you get the points as a bonus.

Welcome and grats to both of you newbies for getting started.
The best piece of advice I can offer is to honestly track your food and exercise every day. It only hurts you if you fudge on tracking. If you over eat, track it. If you under eat, track it. If you exercise, track it If you don't, track that too Tracking makes you more aware of what you eat and the calories you are eating. It's really easy to undercount calories and over estimate exercise but your better off doing it the other way around!

Welcome to SparkPeople! This is a great place. I think tracking your food daily helps a lot. I ti accountability. It also helps you know your calories, carbs, etc. There are lots of great articles to help you learn. Take it one day at a time, one good choice at a time.

First I'd like to say ...WELCOME"! I have belonged to the site for a couple of years anyway..I do find it such a wonderful help to post to the message boards, listen to the spark radio, use the food and exercise tracker..blog, etc. Wonderful people here to lend a hand where ever It sounds like the individuals that have replied to your post already have shared some great advice..So again , welcome and enjoy the journey.
The food tracker is a big help. Take time to use it. There are features that make it easier to use like making a favorites list and a groupings list. Excellent recipes. Joining "teams" that focus on various subject matter, depending on your interests. Spark people radio is good to listen to while you are using the site. The hosts give a lot of good, basic advice. There are health-related articles to read, also. No big hurry. Take your time and learn the site. It is best to commit to be here for the long haul which will help you live a healthier lifestyle. Oh, and there is a place to keep record of your physical activity.
