Most of the time when I make a recipe using sparkrecipes, I don't have an exact volume, either. It is basically dividing it up into portions that seem reasonable as far as calories and fat and protein. Then I portion it out so that it equals that serving number and don't worry about the weight or volume. Then I just note it as "8 servings", or whatever.
I am not sure how others do it, to me this is just the easiest way, since I am not concerned with volume, but with calories and all that.

I decided to make chili today-hoping it will last me a few meals. I made a recipe on sparkrecipe using what i had on hand...some ground chicken breast, 2 cans of beans and some seasoning. I am going to throw all of it in the slow cooker today. Since I do not know the true total volume, I cant determine how many "cups" i could get out of the pot. In other words, if i knew all of those ingredients added up to 12 cups I could say makes 12 1 cup servings. Im not really sure how to figure out the serving size...so when my chili is done...how do I know how much to serve myself? HELLLLPPPP i dont want to accidentally eat WAY more calories...how many calories would be in a cup?
