Wedding pictures last FOREVER. That's my motivation. And yes, your goal should be more permanent. But if you won't work hard for it now, it's even less likely you'll do it later. You SHOULD be in great shape for your wedding (and honeymoon) and then maintain for the future. There's no harm in using the wedding date as your goal.
