Take one day at a time and remember that you are doing this for you--a healthy life over your life span. We all have been there--you just have to wake up one day and say "this is the day that I doing something just for me". emoticon

I am a college student so I know what it is like to constantly be busy. You just have to put the books down, and put all the exam stuff away for an hour, or even a half an hour to do the video, go to the gym or go for that run. No one can force you to work out and lose weight. It has to be a self initiated thing.

Everyone in here is here to support you! But you must also be willing to help yourself.

You wrote that you started running but are self-conscious about it. See other posts on same topic, "Embarrassed at the gym," and "Embarrassed to run."

Short version is to forget about what you think others are thinking and get moving! You don't know what others are thinking, you just think they are thinking something negative about you. You are likely very wrong. Most people admire those who get up and get out to go jogging. You are doing something good for yourself.

Did you know that running is one of the top two most efficient exercises? You can burn more calories faster with it than any other sport except cross country skiing.

You want to lose weight? What are you waiting for? Get your body moving!

I started running in cross country in high school and forty years later am still doing it. Now age 55. I ran in college at 5 AM and got my daughter up and out the door to day care in time to make my 8 AM classes. I still jog at 5 - 6 AM before the workday begins.

Presumably, if you are in college, it is likely that you are young and strong. Believe me it gets harder as you age. Get going! If I jogged and went to college and worked as a single mother in my twenties, you can do it easier if you don't have kids. If you do, you can still do it because I did it.

I concur with the advice. After decades of yo-yo dieting, being on diet after diet & even after gaining weight in SparkPeople, I conceded whatever I was doing wasn't working, so.....I got emoticon , read through it once, then again, which I then started to listen to everything I read. It may seem like going backwards, but I was always gung ho at first, then wavering shortly after starting my 'diet.' Once I started small, exercising just 10 minutes a day (even tho' some days I exercised 2 hours, it was never consistent), working on one healthy habit at a time, I started seeing results. Weight was slow in coming off, but it ALWAYS came off, & I was thrilled when it was only a fraction of a pound because it was a LOSS! Plus once I changed my mindset that I was looking to get healthy & fit; not 'go on a diet,' it made a huge difference.
Start small & you'll get there. emoticon

Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps!!! I have tried to lose weight for years and years and never really reached my goals. But this year WILL BE DIFFERENT because I'm going about it a totally different way. If you look at all that YOU AREN'T DOING you are just beating yourself up. Look at what you are doing. Instead of waking up tomorrow and trying to change it all, and thus setting yourself up for failure, change one thing tomorrow. Just one. Then, at the end of the day, tell yourself good job, well done!! This year I'm setting very small attainable goals. I have a problem with food. I know this. But this week, dealing with that is NOT my goal. This week my goals for me are to drink more water (shooting for 6 glasses/day), start journaling (didn't set a goal for number of times that I journal, if I do it once, I've met my goal), and start taking vitamins which I placed beside my toothbrush and have done every night. Those are small VERY ATTAINABLE goals. I ate a brownie tonight... THAT'S OK. My goal was not to stop eating sugar or change my whole eating habits that I have set forth for the past 15 years in one week... I'm drinking my water and tonight I'll take my vitamins and I might journal... I've done better just doing those few things than I have in a long time. I'm not going to kick myself in the butt. I'm taking baby steps!!! :-) You can do it!!!

This can be hard at times, I know. I've gone through more slumps than I care to remember!

You will get out of this what you put into it. Read the blogs. There are SO many people out there going through tougher challenges than you and I and they are making things happen. They really inspire me to get off the couch when I am lazy.

Try to keep it in mind how proud of yourself you will feel after a workout, no matter how short! Baby steps every day!

Start over tomorrow! I'll be pulling for you!

I have no motivation any more, I used to be careful with what I eat but other the past few months I cant stop eating and its not exactly healthy. I am quite slim but I really want to tone up and when I first started SP I did a few of the fitness videos for about a week and then just totally forgot about it all. I need to get out more but I have exams and coursework to do so I'm stuck inside revising. I've tried running but I feel really self conscious and aware of people looking at me,

Can any one help me get motivated again? emoticon
