That happened to me when I went on a food plan that was to low in fat. I lost 100 lbsand my hair. Fortunately my hair came back. Unfortunately so did the weight Plus some. So now I am trying again following an ""all things in moderation" approach.

Talk to almost any hairdresser and they will tell you that: 1) that is normal and 2) that actually isn't that much. I "shed" a lot too so I just use the hose on the vacuum and vacuum up the hair in the bathroom every couple of days.
I have somewhat long hair and a lot of it, and I shed like a dog - always have. The shower is the place where it shows up the most, but I didn't notice it nearly as much when I had shorter hair. I find tumble weeds of it, if I slack off in my vacuuming. It may just be completely natural.
Could be stress, could be nutrition, could be aging, hard to tell.
One thing I do is brush my hair really vigorously in the direction of the hair shaft once or twice a day, and particularly before washing. Then I clean the fallen hair off the bathroom floor & put it in the garbage. This reduces the amount of hair that lands in other parts of the house or in the drains. It might help keep your mom off your case.

I went through a period (i.e. a couple of months) when I lost a lot of hair. I would pull out clumps in the shower and had no idea what was going on. Actually, it was a bit scary. Eventually, it stopped and is no longer a problem, but could have been caused by several things, most of which aren't serious. Definitely get your thyroid checked as hair loss can be a symptom of a problem, usually which can be treated with medication. In my case, I think it was stress, so the poster who mentioned this could certainly be right. Also, are you eating the right foods? I imagine, although I'm not a doctor, that a lack of various vitamins, protein, healthy oils, etc. could contribute to hair loss. I would just ask your doctor- for peace of mind if nothing else. Good luck and I hope the problem passes.

Oh, I've got a wig you can have if you need it - but it's grey, so you'd better keep your own hair for a good deal longer yet.
Seriously, each hair only lasts a certain time so if you have long hair it means each hair is quite old. Then they drop out to make room for new hair to grow. What's happening to you might just be a normal thing.
At every shower, I lose like 20 strands!!! And keep losing a few more here & there when I'm out and about. My Mom constantly complains about all the hair littering her floors! I'm the only one in the family with long hair, so it has to be mine!!!
