You could always ask for a condiment cup of the white sauce on the side and dip a few bites. That way you don't feel like you're depriving yourself entirely.

Thanks! I will check out the soups and probably go with that or the shrimp.

The white sauce is yummy and if I know me and I use it I will over do it. So really want something tasty to keep me away.

how about trying one of the noodle soups ? they are extremely healthy as well as tasty. Are they low calorie ? depends on the portion size. If you just get a big bowl of soup, that will still be fewer calories than the steak and fried rice.

Shrimp is always a good option. Not sure what's the in the white sauce. If it's yummy, it must be high in calorie. ;)

Thanks before trying to do healthy when I would go I would get steak and shrimp with the fried rice and vegetables mix all together and put white sauce all over it, Thinking about what you said about ordering something i would like, i cannot choose between shrimp or chicken not sure which is healthier? and getting steamed rice instead of the fried rice and the veggies are healthy so I may eat a little rice and try to mostly eat the veggies and which ever meat. really love the white sauce but i'm gonna try to stay away...

Have the miso soup as an appetizer. Miso soup is low in calorie and very tasty. What kind of Japanese restaurant are you going to ? Is the menu online ? If so, why not check the menu to see what sorts of options there are.

If you're going to a "steak" type place, just be mindful of your portion sizes. Sushi is pretty low calorie as long as you watch how many pieces you eat.

Japanese noodle soups like Udon is pretty yummy. There are also Japanese burgers. I've been to a local Japanese burger place that's really good. portions are outrageous. I always take home a doogie bag.

My advice ? Try something that you think you'll enjoy. Don't eat something just because it's low calorie. If the portion size is large, eat half there and take half home to enjoy later.
