Welcome to Spark People Yeah, the Spark Points are just fun, but they were a way of tracking my "stick-to-it-ness". I found that as I was getting at least 100 points per day, I was interacting, writing, and tracking exercise and calories. For me, it helped me stay on the program and helped me be consistent.

I too found myself gaining weight when I stopped nursing. Oh, nursing, the best weightloss program I had ever been on, haha. I miss being able to eat a lot and still watch the pounds come off. It has been 1 year since I stopped nursing my son, and I have gained 25 lbs back. So, now its baby steps to do it the real world way.

This is the first time I've ever actively tried to lose weight. I'm a 44 yo wife and mom of three, ages 11, 8, and 2 1/2. I'm a freelance writer/editor, but hoping to get a job with our kids' online school. My husband works in manufacturing, formerly home remodeling,and before that was an auto mechanic. He's in school part-time to get a civil engineering degree.
I always tended to lose weight after having our kids because of nursing. A year ago, I was down to 140 before I had surgery (preventative hysterectomy/oophorectomy because of breast/ovarian cancer risks in our family), when our youngest daughter was almost a year old. However, once the nursing slows down, the weight creeps back up again, and we stopped nursing back in December (cold turkey, as none of my kids would wean off lol). I'm back up to 165 (especially after a week with my in-laws over Christmas with a lot of southern cookin' lol). My doctor recommended I lose 5-10 pounds at my last checkup. My personal goal is to get back to 150, my comfy weight.
So far, I've done pretty good on the calories per day, most of the time lol. I need to work on exercising more regularly. I have to find something that will work on my 3x c-section belly lol. But it has to be something that won't aggravate my back, as I've sprained it twice and have had whiplash twice. The kids and I do walk a good bit in the summer, but once the weather gets nasty, we don't get out as often.
I do have one question, what good are the points? Do we earn anything for them? Or is it just a status thing?
