WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.
A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.
2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. I hope you are finding everything you are looking for here. I lost 30 lbs here at Spark several years back. I dealt with some difficult changes in my life and gained all the weight back and MUCH more. So I'm back to fight it off. You can too!!!!!!

Hello and Welcome to SparkPeople!
I started Sparking in June of 2007. By using Spark and some self discovery along the way, I'm down 50 pounds, and am holding steady at a healthy weight. Spark is a massive site, you'll be discovering new and exciting things for months to come! * Diet is a dirty word. Every time I hear it, I wash my mouth out with chocolate!

There are so many great resources here! I recommend starting with the nutrition/food tracker because that is the key element in weight loss for most people. Then, once you're comfortable with tracking your food on a daily basis, start exploring more areas of this site. I still find something new here almost every day. By tracking everything since May 2011 and using the other features here to keep myself focused, I lost 90 pounds and have maintained that loss for almost a year now. It takes a little bit of time, but it is sooooo worth it!

I'm as 38 year old single mother of two boys 6 & 20,, and trying right now to just focus on getting healthy and balanced physically, emotionally, spiritually ,etc. I struggled with weight all my life, and much of the cause was due to my Narcolepsy which was not real well l known at the time. I gained many bad habits that I have had to work to overcome throughout the years. In 2003 I actually had a Rouen y gastric bypass, and within a year went from 380 to 115... I was very sick. Had a pill line in my arm for ten months so that I could hook up to an I.v. bag at night and get infused with proteins etc for 12 hours as I slept. There is much I could share with you. Since then I have had a son, and due to medications I was on and hormones etc I have gotten back up to 230 and am terrified.I was down for almost a year in pain until finally I got a hysterectomy last summer. So I gained more before I got help. I also just found out I am allergic (highly) to wheat and gluten so I am trying to just start a new lifestyle that is healthy all the way around. I am really excited to have found this site and love how easy it is to add food intake etc. I do hope they add something that could help us know if a food has gluten in it someday. That would be cool. Anyway, life is good but I know I would feel better knowing I'm working towards being the best I can be. Hope to meet many new friends on here. For now though I'm gonna shush and quit jabbering. Lol
