Welcome! We are in very similar boats- I started again shortly after I turned 27... how did this happen? How did I let myself get into such horrible shape? I used to run track, play tennis and volleyball and dance and now... yeah, none of that's happening!
But you have definitely come to the right place to get going! The most important thing I can tell you is to follow the program- I scoffed at small changes at first, and went all gung-ho, which worked great for the 6-12 weeks I would stick to it (and lose 20-30 lb), but then I would revert to old habits and the workouts would lessen and it would all come right back. So please stick with the small changes to get going! It makes them so much more sustainable in the long run!
Sounds like you have healthy goals- I think it's great that you'll be measuring yourself. On the weigh-in page there are options to add measurements- you can choose from a set of pre-set ones and/or add your own as well!
The program is great- the nutrition & fitness trackers will become your best friend. I would suggest tracking your current intake for a week or two so you can see your eating habits and proportion of carbs/fat/protein. That way you'll know what changes to start off with!
I would also recommend joining some spark teams- they can be a great resource for support and motivation!

I've finally stepped up to the plate and I'm ready to start making a change in my life.
I'm 28 yrs old and it hit me a couple of days ago that I'm in the worst shape ever. In High School I was able to run 2 miles without breaking a sweat and now I can't even run for 5 minutes straight without becoming incredibly winded.
This is not how I pictured myself only 10 yrs out of high school. I'm at the heaviest weight I've ever been and I'm ready to make a change about that.
I've been stalk...err..reading posts and checking out the site for quite some time now, so I figured it was time to put it to actual use and help me gain my goals.
My goals are simple, lose weight, be active, and run in my first 5k. I'm not looking for a specified goal, although SP has informed that if I lose 2lbs a week I'll be at 193 by January. However it will be what it will be. I'm more concerned with tone and inches anyhow :D
Anywho, I'm very excited to be here and to get started, this so far looks to be a great free program..which is hard to believe that something like this isn't charging people out the ears for it!
