Weight loss is basically about calories burned versus calories consumed, not about what your heart rate is during exercise.
That said, when starting an exercise program, it's probably best to start out gently and gradually increase the intensity over several weeks. Your maximum heart rate can roughly estimated at 220 minus your age, or about 170 in your case. You should start out exercising at 60-65% (100-110 bpm), gradually lifting it to 75-80% (130-135 bpm).

I would highly recommend getting medical clearance from your doctor before starting an exercise program. Your doctor can help decide how intensely you should be working and how your fitness program should progress.

Hello, I am 49 years old, 6'5" and weigh 410 pounds after loosing 90 pounds these past six months. My current resting blood pressure readings is fairly consistent which is usually 124/74 with resting heart beat of 58. No caffeine, alcohol or added sugar. As I continue to loose the next 150 pounds I will get quite active throwing 45 pound hay bales around frequently and finally lost enough to start walking on the treadmill. Being healthy, no health issues, what heart beat range do you recommend I target as I become more active along with loosing 10 pounds per month. What heart beat range is considered too high for someone my age. I'm too lazy to look this information up myself and will not see my doctor for checkup until this winter. Thanks in advance.
