Coach Denise mentioned earlier that the contract with them couldn't be renewed. Maybe after a while they will be able to work it out. That would certainly be nice because I miss the Health News feature, too.

I voice the same opinions as many others. The health news provided by SP always seemed to be right on, and has been a huge help for those of use with health issues. It should be easy to get to.
Hope Spark gets this back, was something I enjoyed reading on a daily basis. Denise, if the Spark staff thinks the content here is so much better, why don't you start putting more in blogs to help us stay up-to-date. I don't mind the recycled ones - although they would be much better if I could get points again when reading them when they are posted as new... but would really like to stay abreast of the new health news without having to search elsewhere on the web for it.
Vicki - I'm not sure what you mean. When I go to the What's Up at SparkPeople forum, this thread and another thread about the Health News articles are still there.

With a little internet searching, you can always find the answer! For those of you, like me, who are very interested in continuing access to the "Health News" feature, I was able to figure out the SP vendor for this from a cached page. It was "Health Day", and you can find their site at healthday.com. On that site, they list various media sources and companies that get their feed and make it accessible to the public. I haven't had a chance yet to check out all the options, but one is WebMD, and it looks like WebMD also has a free food and fitness tracker. It's not clear how it compares to SP, but maybe worth checking out. First look suggests it might be less oppressive on the advertising side.

Hmm. I noticed that this line of discussion is now not appearing in the list of discussion topics on the forum, even though there have been more recent response/dialogues than other discussion topics listed. Can one of the coaches explain why that would happen? I'd hate to think that there's any censoring on postings (?)

Health News will be missed. It provided timely articles on a variety of health issues not just diseases and "conditions". Sorry the contract couldn't get resolved.

There is another site on the Internet that gives health news, Medical News Today. I will use that site since I can't get my news from SP anymore.
If they cannot put the exact Health News articles in, can they at least put in new Spark Articles that maybe mention some of the things that are going on if they relate to something in the lifestyles of Spark members. Or put in some new blogs? All I ever see are repeats over and over. Those weren't usually from outside paid subscriptions/contracts, but were from SP employees who are coaches, or in some cases members who are also in the health businesses.
Coach Dennise, Perhaps this is one of those times when a general email or SP blog could have been made apprising everyone of what was going on. Then most of the general membership would have been aware of why it was happening and not so many people would have gotten upset.
I know not all contracts are due to money issues, but whatever the reason, I am sorry it could not be resolved. I will certainly miss that feature.
I agree with Dawn. It seems that the articles are continuous repeats. In fact there was one day I read an article, got the Spark points then 3 days later the same article was the same one that was featured before. It's rare to see new articles any more. But I guess it gets difficult coming up with new thoughts every day to write about.
Oh well - I'll adapt and adjust but I have seen a lot of changes in the site since I joined a few years ago. I do appreciate that it's free but I'm not sure that some of the changes have been the most productive. But I'll keep reading!

While I like some of the Spark articles, I've noticed that there used to be new regular spark articles posted constantly, then it mostly switched to the Spark Blog; now that gets a new article once or twice a week. NEW content has dropped dramatically. And we loved the daily health news to keep us apprised of new information in the health world. Maybe that new contract could have been worked out if it was considered more important.

I assumed it was a money issue. With all the ads, it shouldn't be. AND I disagree that your content is better. We are talking about removing up-to-date news in the field of health. Nowhere on this site do you have now any health news of the day. Now I am going to have to search the internet to receive what I once received so timely and concisely here. Another bad move on SP's part and another great feature lost. I sincerely hope that this trend SP is on doesn't continue.
The content in the Health News was from paid from a 3rd party, and we weren’t able to work out a new contract with them, which is why it is no longer on the site. We actually think our content is a lot better, both in terms of quality and on the healthy lifestyle focus.

Bummer! Having Health News was great!! Yet another thing being replaced by more advertisements?? This is a real shame. An unfortunate trend continues
6/13/14 7:49 A
This is unfortunate. I've been around long enough that I've read most of the articles multiple times, and the SP Blog isn't updated that often any more. Health News was the one place I could count on getting NEW content every day

Where is the explanation from Coach Denise that LolaJo refers to in her post? I haven't been able to find anything regarding the changes to the site and the loss of yet another feature that I liked on SparkPeople.
I've searched and found some News which, according to the page name appears to be under a Resources category, but I can't find that category under any of the menu options on the page. I should not have to use Search to keep finding the features that I use on SparkPeople. Sadly, the more they move things around and remove things that bring me to this site, the less I have been using SparkPeople.
I can't believe that the Health News was such an underused topic that it was no longer worth keeping it around. It was very informative and I often learned things from this site before I heard about it through regular news channels.
Very disappointed, yet again, SparkPeople.

This is so sad. I read the Health News every day for tidbits on what is happening out there in the world. It is no longer in the in the drop down menu under the Articles and Videos tab. Such a loss!

This will definitely be a LOSS. It was something useful to forward to people outside of Spark who could find out how useful Spark was in keep abreast of current events, changes, ETC.
Was it too hard to add in the links???????????

Had been searching for the Health News - - and came to this Message area.
I hope they don't PERMANENTLY remove it. I read that EVERY day.

The removal of "Health News" from the site is yet another in a long list of changes that have been made lately to the detriment of the members. Isn't this site about health, among other things? Why remove a concise daily listing of all the latest health news for no given reason. At least explain why it was removed. Give us a reason.
6/12/14 9:30 P
oh thank you coach Denise
read the whole topic and seen your response
6/12/14 9:27 P
me too it was a shock to me I loved reading the health news
I don't like that they removed the Health News, either. I liked to go there and find articles on things that affected me and also that would affect many of my friends that I could alert them to. It is too bad that it was taken out.
I don't like what they keep doing, changing everything all the time. It is confusing and makes it harder to get around the site. It also takes away information that was there before. Seems that there is more "changing the site" than doing articles that might help people.

I agree - this was a GREAT feature, especially for people who have been on the site for some time want to know what's new in health topics.
WHY was this removed from the Articles & Video dropdown, as well as the link from the SparkPoints page? Please put it back.
6/12/14 3:11 P
I'm sorry to see this feature has gone missing. I really enjoyed reading the different articles AND when fam/friends would comment about something they had seen on the news, I could *smugly* reply that I'd already heard about it on SparkPeople.
So now, besides depriving the members of the site with yet another USEFUL thing, you also take away being able to share with nonSparkers a part of what makes being here such a good thing.
I'm sorry, but the Health News was removed from the site this morning.

These changes don't help. We knew where things were now we don't. Anyone ever hear the old phrase 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it!'?
6/12/14 9:16 A
Reading the health news is one of my favorite activities on Spark People, I really missed them this morning when I went to my Spark Points and tried to find them. The Health A-Z is not something I use very often but that is all the pops up. I've already read all the articles about conditions that interest me. I finally found the health news after doing a search, but I sure wish they would put the link back to make it easier.
After what they had when this originally was posted, they put the health articles back on the points page and put the heading on (above) that is Articles and Videos, so it is easier to find. When the question was first asked they had put it under something else.

This is all well and good, but I think SP should make announcements to the members before (or at least after) making changes like this. It took me a long time to try and find "health news". I finally searched here and found the question.
What happened to the health news articles that SP used to link to? Not the ones that tell you about certain health conditions, their symptoms and treatment, but the ones that are new news coming out. I have been checking them out every day, but today they were not in the listing on the Spark Points page like they have been. How does one get to them now or are they completely gone?
