What I am seeing is that tech jobs are on the rise, and companies can not fill these jobs fast enough. There's a real demand for and shortage of front-end developers (computer programmers) where I live. There seems to be lots of these type of good jobs but not enough people out there trained to take them. I think there's something fundamentally wrong with our education system that it is not producing enough employable technology workers.

I don't see any hiring here in MI....seasonal only helps people who are already being supported. Most jobs don't offer vac or insurance. If you have kids it doesn't pay to work and then pay daycare. $8 does not make a living.

NO! Not around the Atlanta area. Things are getting worse. Where do you live? Maybe I should pack my bags and move there.

LUANN_IN_PA, I fully agree. My only point is dont lie to us.We are adults and can handle the truth but this world is not the Wonka charcolate factory.

Beleive me, I am grateful for what we have but our kids wont have it unless this entitlement world is not attacked and solved. Unfortunately, when over 50% of the populations is on some form of the dole, they will only vote for the party that will give them the largess.

"To top it off, those of us who are on Social "Security" will see less than 4% increase in 2013 because of the "low inflation". "

Be grateful you are seeing a 4% raise!
Millions of working Americans will not.

Inflation does include food and gas!

Consumer Price Index (CPI) - A measure of price changes in consumer goods and services such as gasoline, food, clothing and automobiles.

The improvements we are seeing are superficial and I am not happy saying that. There is an uptick in employment is, as many have mentioned, low paying, part time work. The real unemployment is near 16%. The U3 number of 7.8% does not include the ones whos befefits have run out and the ones who have given up on even looking. All I want from the fed IS THE TRUTH. I can handle it but when we are being played for politcal reasons, I am furious.

Home sales and construction in the Phoenix have improved but looking at the MLS data, most of the resales are to investors for rental purposes. The sales in my subdivision (300 plus homes) is overwhelmingly to investors and that is because the values are in the tank and not rising yet.

Fuel is staggering, as you all know and food is as well. And yet we are told that inflation is almolst non existent and that is because the feds do not include fuel and food in the calculations. To top it off, those of us who are on Social "Security" will see less than 4% increase in 2013 because of the "low inflation".

Now we are being told that we need "amnesty" because we need workers. Need workers? With 23 million Americans out of work, how in the world would we need more?

All that being said,I know in my heart that we can turn this around because we are Americans!!! But we are looking at a very bumpy road ahead so tighten your seat belt and be ready to take care of our own and our neighbors.

IF IT'S TO BE, IT'S UP TO ME.

I do not mean seasonal help. I mean new businesses that are hiring people. We all know seasonal is just that, seasonal 3 months tops.

In WV. the only jobs that are paying $12 - $15 an hour is Oil & Gas. Everything else, just about is minimum wage.

Oh, there are jobs being created in my area (Boston). However, those jobs aren't good paying jobs. They are minimum wage jobs that increase during the holiday season at Macys, Best Buy, etc. Once the Christmas rush is over, unemployment numbers will go up again.

If I wanted, I could get a full time job right now. What would it pay ? $8 or $8.50 an hour, not enough to pay the bills. There are very few good paying jobs out there. As a result, you've got 200 people applying for one job that might pay $15 an hour !

These days, a person might have to work 2-3 jobs just to be able to pay the bills. I want to work, but I need to be able to pay my bills with that job too.

I'm in Taiwan. The situation just like you said. But as my opinion, there are many jobs but it depends on how you accept. Some people set higher standard for his choice in the end they got nothing. I would like to try.

I live in an area that has an unemployment rate lower than the national average.

Yesterday I drove by businesses that are advertising help wanted.... several of them.
I guess people would rather collect unemployment than actually work....

People going back to work? I am seeing this.

New businesses opening up and hiring people? I am seeing this.

Unemployment rate going down? of course, I am seeing this.

I just want to know if this is happening around you too.
