LOVE belly dancing. :) I did it for a couple years a while ago - then the instructor stopped holding classes... sadness. :*(

It's a fun workout, however. I personally enjoy anything that's choreographically challenging - so my brain's learning and processing at the same time that my body's moving.

Yes. It's a lot of fun and works your entire core muscles.

I migrated to belly dancing from 5 Rhythms and mostly yoga ... despite having plantar fasciitis and heel spur on both feet.

I needed cardio in measures I could get (at lowest impact) from Belly Dance. Which is better than from 5 Rhythms (a conscious, freeform and meditative dance-based movement modality) Took a few lessons in belly dance, as well.

I also do SharQui - The Bellydance Workout via DVD, and currently take live classes in The Masala Bhangra Workout (impact modified downward for my own special orthopedic needs) ...

It's a great workout, and if you enjoy it, all the better!

This Team has 1100 members. There are two others I saw when I did a "Search" on Spark Teams, and one had 800 members, and another had 600. So, lots of BDers here.

To find a class near your home, I'd look on Craigslist in your area and post a question on the message boards. Or I'd call the community "Adult Education" in your area for classes. We have them held at all the high schools and the community college in the evening hours, with everything from swimming, to sewing and Zumba, or how to plant a garden. My children took MANY of them when they were growing up as they weren't expensive. I took a class in How to Learn Japanese.
