Remember that you are not alone. You will find great support on this SP site. If exercising were convenient and comfortable, everyone would be doing it. Instead only about 30 percent of Americans do it. Great advice on these posts. Start zwalking after a visit to your doctor.

One more vote for medical okay first. Second start off slowly. You can walk just a short distance to start and then gradually add to it. Nutrition must be a major part of your changing life style. What and how much we eat will have a big effect on weight loss. Exercise is an import component for being fit and healthy, but what we provide the body to work with in terms of nutrition is going to be more important.
Also keep in mind that make all these changes in little steps is important. If you make too big a step you will unbalance the system.

I agree that you really should go to your doctor and get cearance. Providing that all is well, remember you can start small. You may only be able to 5 minutes now, for example. Soon enough, that will be easy. Then, you can add a little time. It could be 5 minutes or maybe just a minute more.
Also, as important as exercise is for physical and emotional health, healthy living is a 80/20 balance. Your new life should be focusing 80% on good nutrition and 20% on exercise. In other words, you can't out exercise crappy food choices. So, you maybe can't do a whole ot of exercise now but you can focus on making wise food choices.

Make sure you get medical clearance from your doctor to start exercising.

Walking is a great way to start off, and slowly increase your speed and distance over time. Other great options include stationary bike which is low impact, and easy on your joints, and swimming is also great. I suggest you start with swimming since you will be getting a good workout as well. Also many gyms offer water aerobics, I suggest looking into it!
