Hi, I'm new to the sparkpeople and would like to know how I can track fitness miles instead of minutes in my goals. Anybody know?

Right now, I'm averaging about 16 min/mile. Any faster than a 15 min/mile is a jog for me.

I do a mile in 16 to 17 minutes and when I walk with Dennis my best friend he tells me to slow down. I guess that is a pretty fast walk.

If I'm walking it usually takes about 14 minutes, when I jog I can do a mile in a bit under 10 minutes.

It really varies. 15-17 minutes per mile is about the normal walking range for me. If I go much faster it's "jogging" or "running". A normal mile run for me would be about 12 minutes.

If I'm walking with my wife, it takes us about 17, if I'm by myself, I can do about 14:45

It normally takes me the same amount of time and I walk daily for 20-3 min. It is better when you pace yourself because you don't tire out to fast. Also what I do in the morning is a least a 10 min workout.

Depending on the topo and tempature it can be anywhere from 14 mins to 16 mins a mile walking. Did a test run this weekend for a 10K 6.2 miles and we have it mapped at 6.5 miles to hit both the restrooms at the lake and did it in 1 hour and 45 mins for a time of 16 mins a mile.

It depends. If I'm just meandering about, it can take me 18-20 mins to walk a mile.

However, if I have some place to go and I'm running late, it can take me 15 mins.

The fastest mile I've ever walked was 12 mins and that's because I was hell bent to walk five miles in an hour.

And I did it. I was doing a 20 mile charity walk and wanted to do it in four hours. I ended up walking it in 4 hr 15 mins.

I run a 9:40 mile at a pace of 6.2 mph. You can't walk a 10 minute mile, you would be running it.

Short version: 16-17

Long Version: My cardio is typically swimming. But the Y's pool is closed for renovation so I decided to walk on Saturday night. I was trying to figure out whether I could hit my "calories burned" goal by looking at the various speed options in the fitness tracker. I had clicked on the "15 minute mile" option just to see what the calories would be for the time I had knowing that the last time I walked, I averaged about 19 minutes per mile. My husband said, "You can't walk a 15 minute mile; I can but you can't." He has always walked much faster than I ever did so he wasn't intending to be hateful; he was trying to help me be realistic. However, I took it as a challenge and it was BIG motivation while I walked. I ended up being 1/10th of a mile short of that 15 minute mile goal for each of the four miles I walked that night. I counted that as a big success even though I had to log it as a 17 minute mile because there is no 16 minute mile option. We measured the mileage together after my walk (no pedometer so we measured it by driving the car over my route) so he saw that I was pretty darn close to hitting that speed and was surprised and impressed.

20 minutes if I walk by myself
15 minutes if I walk with my husband(he walks faster and I have to keep up)
On the treadmill I do about 16-17. If I go faster on the treadmill, I catch my shoes on the tread. I just increase incline instead.

On the treadmill, if I am pushing myself, I can walk a mile in 12 minutes. My general treadmill mile takes between 17-20 minutes. When I walk outside, my mile takes a bit longer, around 24 minutes.

The fastest I ever walk a mile is 15 minutes (4.0 mph). I have to jog if going any speeds faster than that. I can jog 12-minute miles, though. That's about 5.0 mph. I'm trying to work my way up to running a 10-minute mile!

It depends on my mood. I try to do a 13m/m to a 15m/m.

a mile can be anywhere from 10min that is when you are jogging and up to 20 minutes for a casual walk.

I'd never heard that about wider steps. I'll have to go research that. If I'm walking the hills around my house, it takes me about 15 min per mile. If I'm walking flat land, like back home in GA, I can pull 13 min miles. But that ususally looks more like a power walk. If I'm jogging the hills, I can do a 12 min mile, but that's about as good as I can do with the hills these days.

I do a lot of walking and i can cover 5 miles in 65 minutes. It took awhile to get to that point, always push yourself. My goal is 55-60 mins. Best of luck to you!

you really cant "walk" a 10 minute mile. The pace would be too fast (6.0 mph), and considered a run. I walk a 15m/m, jog a 13 m/m and run a 11m/m or better depending on how hard im working.

Someone once told me to take smaller steps but quicker ones and to get your arms moving. It will turn your walk into a real good cardio exercise. Hope I'm on the right track cause that's what I do.
