On Posture: I just got a belt in the athletic section of Target, to support the back, and it is helping me keep in target with my posture.
PILATES: I heard about and tried Pilates before, but I haven't been serious about it. Maybe I will start incorporating that to my exercise...I think I will get a DVD, and let you know how it goes.
CARDIO: I have been going to exercise classes religiously since I originally posted this post, and IT IS WORKING!!! My pregnant look belly has gone down from 10 months pregnant to 5-8 months. By the way, everyone, I am not obese, I am only 10 pounds overweight, and I am 43 years old... my body seems to like all my fat ot accumulate there..since I hit middle age....
RESPONSE COMMENT: I REALLY LIKE THAT ONE! I will write something out so that I can respond to that quickly.

I know how you feel i work with the public i'm in retail, i have people ask me quite often when am i due,& my reply is i'm not pregnant just fluffy,then some apoligize& they feel embarressed & walk away & others say because you have that glow that most pregnant women have & i say it is because i have a new grandbaby & he is the reason i glow,(he's 8 months old now ).i hope this cheers you up it does me,bcause it not how the public sees you it is how god & you see yourself

I hope you are not offended by my comments because I truly mean for them to be helpful. Also, I want to say that some people are simply rude and inconsiderate and don't let anyone get you down EVER.
I think sometimes people that have different body shapes and where they carry their weight affects how others perceive them. Also, the type of clothes that you wear do affect how you look. You need to wear clothes that accentuate your best assets etc...
I have a friend that is a little overweight that doesn't have a chubby face at all (defined jaw bone, no double chin etc)and she has great legs. However, she has large breasts and carries weight in her midsection. She has received the same types of comments. It really hurt her feelings.
I think the type of clothes and color of clothes and the way they fit will make a definite immediate improvement with you and my friend.
In addition, continue to eat nutritious food, track your food, exercise (cardio/strength training) and use the support and tools on SP.
Don't worry about any comments. Maybe it would make you feel better to have "an emergency comment" handy just in case it ever happens again. Not a smart comment or anything like that. Just a comment that would somehow make your point, but empower you at the same time. I can't think of anything off the top of my head....maybe, just say something like:
"Thanks for asking, but I'm not pregnant. However, I have been making positive changes towards living a healthy lifestyle through better nutrition and exercise". I'm sure the person will get your point.

So I know that spot training won't get rid of belly fat, but I think maybe your posture has something to do with looking pregnant. Not all people with extra belly fat look pregnant. I would suggest incorporating some pilates into your workouts, or at least some sort of core strengthening moves. I think if you strengthened your back and stomach muscles, it would staighten out your posture and make it so your belly didn't protrude so much.

ONCE I GOT ON A PUBLIC BUS AND A MAN SAID OH HERE TAKE MY SEAT , I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST BEING NICE. THEN HE SAID HOW FAR ALONG ARE YOU AND I THOUGHT TO MYSELF HOW FAR ALONG ARE YOU AND I REALIZED HE THINKS I"M PREGNANT SO I SAID 5 MONTHS. I WAS SO EMBARRASSED I DINT KNOW WHAT TO SAY.
One time I was congratulated on my growing family...and I wasn't pregnant.
Then one day when I WAS pregnant and wearing a maternity shirt that made some funny reference to it, someone said "But you're not really pregnant, are you?" (Meaning - what? That I'm just fat??? I was in my 7th month!)
Best bet: if you're not absolutely, 100% sure, don't say anything!

That's terrible and inconsiderate of the people saying these things. I'm really sorry.
If you have a sense of humor about it, I bet you can find a button or t-shirt that says your subject line here.
The good thing about being obese, as I was when I graduated college, is that you can lose weight more quickly when you turn things around. I lost something like 10 pounds in the few weeks after I started exercising every day 45-60 minutes on my bike and eating chicken and moderate amounts of fat. I had been a vegetarian and had tried to eat as little fat as possible following the 1990s thinking, but instead gained weight on too many carbs.
everyone has given you great advice! i just wanted to say welcome to SP and make sure you take advantage of everything it has to offer, especially the fabulous support system! i find that even if we know how to lose weight it's easier when there is a whole community of people who know what you are going through. support and motivation are just as important as having the right tools and SP has all of these things! good luck on your journey!
Thanks everyone - funny, I know all the answers..but it's so good to hear and be reminded. Thanks for replying to my PANIC BUTTON. Funny that we actually need to take action, and don't do it. I know I'm at the right place to start. I started taking fitness class, and doing cardio...and I AM watching the food.. Will keep you posted on my results!
Hi. I'm 52 and need to lose 80 or more pounds. Here's what led me to SparkPeople. A month and a half ago, my S.O. and I were climbing a sand dune monument. A concerned lady came up to me and asked, "are you pregnant?" -- probably to offer helpful advice about slipping or something. Needless to say, I am not pregnant. Aside from ruining my day, it made me take a serious look at how far I have let myself go. And it inspired me to do something about it. There isn't a way to spot train, but doing cardio will help you lose fat overall. You really want to use a combination of cardio and strength training to help gain fitness and lose weight.
