Welcome! I think I understand what you mean about the texture and/or mental aversion of certain foods. I had this with beans & tomatoes, so this is what I did to work my aversion out. I planted my own garden. Yes, I paid the city to rent one of their garden plots & planted the seeds of veggies that I wanted to eat for my health. A bit of weeding (more exercise than it sounds), some water, and a few months time I had all sorts of things to eat. I'd like to say I ate them all, but I didn't. Some were good, some were gross, others rotted in the fridge & got tossed out. But I figured anything that I spent time & money on like that was worth trying. Maybe this isn't an option for you. So here's a couple things you could try. Spaghetti squash. You love pasta? This squash is very similar to pasta. Go buy it from produce section, check with your friend Google on how to cook in microwave, add spaghetti sauce, etc. and there you go! Eating a veggie. I've also seen some recipe for frozen bananas made into ice cream. Haven't tried it, because, well, I don't really eat alot of ice cream. I also try to fool myself and sneak veggies into meals. Mac n cheese with veggies, Pizza with veggies, tacos with veggies, omelettes with veggies, you get the idea. Texture-wise there are still some beans I'm not a fan of. And tomatoes have to be diced fine & mixed with something in order for me to eat them. Any veggie chopped up small so it requires very little chewing might help you not gag. Turns out that I actually like some veggies! Mostly I didn't really know how to cook them when I started this process. So I keep it simple. Good Luck!

Welcome to Spark People! Plan what you are going to eat for the day based on the calories you have alotted and don't let you talk yourself into eating anything else. It really helps when you know how many calories you are taking in. I know grabbing a bag of chips and eating them mindlessly. We've all done that, but you need to think...how many calories can I spend on this and take only that much out of the bag.
Anyway, check on the articles, they have lots of tips and tricks to help you get started. Everyone here is more than willing to help you!

I'm a 32 year old man who would like to lose weight. I've been overweight most of my life and have struggled with it quite a bit.
I think I've done the song and dance enough to understand the basics about exercise and nutrition. I've come to realize my main issue tends to be emotional eating. That and hating fruits and veggies. And maybe love of ice cream and pasta.
I would love to hear from others who have tips on how to overcome hatred/disgust of veggies and other healthy foods. For me it seems to be a combination of texture aversion and mental. If I could eat anything I would definitely know what to eat. Sometimes trying things actually makes me gag, which sucks obviously.
Don't really know where else to go to figure this all out, so hopefully this resource really helps. Thanks!
