Well thank you Russel you are right. And now for I am enjoying Chili Concarn'e and can't tell the difference from ground beef. I am planning to make a nice meatloaf next. I have even made my own bread crumbs from the ends of my whole grain breads. I'll just have to doctor it up some and it will be good. Maybe even make a double batch to freeze some. Thank you for your response. and for looking at it from a different angle. I think I needed that.
So what? A Subway sub isn't much better for you than a McDonald's burger, but it IS better.
Think of it as six lbs. of a better option than ground beef. Keep making steps towards your ideal diet. This will happen in steps. You have made a choice to be healthier, and made a step in the right direction. You just didn't make as big a step as you thought, but it is still a step, and in the right direction.
After you eat the 6 lbs. of ground turkey, you can try making another step. just for trying. Most people haven't even reached that step.

If they grind up the dark meat and skin it is as fattening as full fat ground beef.
Then ground turkey breast is as dry as a desert in famine.

You would be amazed at the amount of people who assume ground turkey is so much better.
Turkey breast is lean, but dark meat isn’t, and some ground turkey contains both. A quarter pound of regular ground turkey contains 3g sat fat. Compare that to only 2.5g in the same amount of sirloin. Ground turkey breast, on the other hand, has just half a gram of sat fat, so the right cut of turkey is a significant fat-cutter.

I do meatballs, meat sauces, burgers, sloppy joes, kabobs, tacos, etc with it. I even do my own breakfast sausage and freeze for later use!
A tip for when you do buy the lower fat turkey- I always add in moisture by adding finely chopped/grated onion and/or some lemon juice in the mixture- keeps the meat from drying out when you cook it!

When I read your post, I didn't believe it, but after googling both ground turkey and ground beef (at the same fat content), you are right. I do most of my cooking using Cooking Light or Eating Well magazines and they often substitute turkey for beef. You can go to either of their web sites or just google ground turkey and find recipes. Thanks for the information!
Some ground turkey can be just as fat as ground beef depending on the kind of Ground Turkey you buy as the skin may be ground in.....

The lowest I have found.....I make stir-fry's, Chili, and sometime turkey burgers, meatballs and Turkey stuffed peppers......

I wanted to thank every one that responded to my post. I get the idea just substitute it for ground beef. My first item to make was chili which turned out good. I haven't had it in over a year, ( I think ) I couldn't tell the difference. Thanks again.

I would imagine that the Turkey would have less calories, less overall fat, less cholesterol, less saturated fat, possibly more potassium and more tryptophan.
I would bust a gut to be able to buy turkey. Here we can generally only buy turkey at Xmas, and mostly as the whole bird which is miles too much for 1 or 2 people. Hardly any supermarkets supply even the ground turkey.
There are tons of things that you can do with it Stir Fry Meat Loaves Meat Balls Meat Patties Lasagne Curry Chilli Stuffed Bell Peppers Stuffed Aubergine Stew Browned with red onions, mix in some plum sauce, and top with fresh wholegrain breadcrumbs fried to a crisp with chopped bacon - yuuuummmmm

I love turkey meatloaf - if you do a search on Pinterest for "clean eating turkey meatloaf" there are a few recipes you can try. My favorite involves using salsa instead of ketchup. :)

I have also found that 99% ground turkey cooked in low sodium vegetable broth (enough to keep it from sticking) along with Mrs. Dash seasoning really helps it to be tasty.

Anything that you use ground beef in. Yes the taste will be different, but it doesn't really change how the recipe cooks up.

I am bummed out after buying 6 pounds of ground turkey I discover it's not much better for you than ground beef.
I guess I learn the hard way, I've got to buy the 93 % or better. Anybody got any favorite recipes for ground turkey? I'd love to receive them.
