I'm not a baker but know that baking can be...finicky!

I love these granola bars I make but there's a lot of sugar in them and want to know how much I can reduce them without altering it.

It calls for 3cups of brown sugar and 1 cup of corn syrup. I'm pretty sure I can just cut the sugar by about 1/2 without any major difference but what about the corn syrup? Does it hold it together? There's also peanut butter in it - is that sufficient to hold it together and I don't need any corn syrup? And what about butter (1cup)...how much can I reduce that?
