yes I do that when I need to.........I try not to need to.....but it does come up sometimes.

This is the part of dieting that is "game playing", but it's in no way unusual..........whether it leads to just saying "the heck with it" is up to you, in the end...........

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

My problem is night time eating. I eat when I feel like it. But if I go over, I try not to the next day. I do not try to go under on calories.

Also make sure you don't splurge for extended periods of time ie. 3 days in a row.

I calorie cycle so it just comes naturally that I eat more on some days and less on some days. It tends to even out.

That said, I don't think it is really a good idea to deliberately eat less by a specified amount to make up for a splurge. Personally, that would feel negative and punitive to me and set me up for further splurges down the road.

I eat when I need to eat and don't eat when I don't need to eat.

Well. Sometimes, the day after a big splurge, you might not feel as hungry as usual anyways.

But... really what you would want to do, is stick to the lowest end of your calorie range the day after. Like, if your range is 1200-1550, and one day you eat 2550 (1000 calories over), you really do NOT want to eat just 200-550 the next day. Eat the 1200 and call it "even enough." Because trying to undereat has a terrible tendency to backfire... by setting you up for the kind of extreme-hunger that can set off future splurging, or by shortchanging your body on needed nutrition (which can leave you feeling drained and tired and cranky, physical and emotional feelings that make it harder to do your exercise and stick to your healthy eating goals).



Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

I know it's not exactly optimal, but if you go over your calorie limit one day (lets say because of drinking) will it even out if you go under it by the same amount the next day (because, say, you slept in and forgot breakfast:)?
