I'm not a religious person, but it's one 6-week period of the year, right? Lots of people give up lots of different things. Some for religious reasons, some use it for health reasons. I personally don't see anything wrong with it, but then, again, I'm not religious. If it's important to you religiously, then I see nothing wrong with adding in some health benefits as well.

I gave up sweets/desserts for Lent this year. It's important to me religiously, and it's an extra way to be healthier. I feel a little guilty about "using" Lent to achieve better health/weight loss, but there's nothing wrong with that, right?
