Not depriving yourself is key to helping you maintain what you have lost. By the time you have lost the weight you want to lose, you will be used to and comfortable with the smaller portions.
I've found looking at the changes I'm making as lifestyle changes for life, not a diet I'll be following just until I reach my goal has made a huge difference in helping me to stay motivated. I don't deprive myself, but I track everything and work my treats into my days calorie range.

Thanks! I will look up the book. I also realized that if I let myself have a normal day of eating a week I can look forward to it as a special treat and it doesn't blow the whole deal. It quiets the whining "deprived" child in me. Company came last Saturday and I went to a fish fry the week before and my weight has continued to go down.
Feeling deprived is just your "inner brat" talking according to Dr. Judith Beck, so I just tell her to "SHUT UP." The BECK DIET SOLUTION is a wonderful book to read, as Judith Beck PhD has stayed very slim and trim for over 20 yrs using her method. I got a copy at the library. She has interviews on YouTube. Denise Austin is 56, the mother of two grown girls, and she's 5'4" and 112#. She manages to stay fit. Dr. Mercola who is a medical doctor believes in fasting for 16 hours, so he doesn't eat until about 11 a.m. and he says that helps with staying slim. I love his web site and lectures. I take several teaspoons of Psyllium Husk powder daily in water and that helps to make me feel full. I use Konstyl which I buy at Walmart for $14 per container. I always add the powder to the water and not the other way around, so it mixes easily.

Sometimes at the end of a day when I've kept strictly to my calories I think, Whoa no wonder I was gaining weight before. Even though I usually eat pretty healthy the amount of calories was way too much for my 55 year old body, even with exercise. But 1200 - 1500 calories doesn't comfort me the way I need it to. How do you all keep yourselves from feeling deprived once your weight is down and you try to maintain?
