You could commit to one or more of the 30-day push up/squat/plank challenges that are all over the internet these days. Get a friend to do it with you and you can motivate each other. I did the squat challenge where you work up from doing 20 to doing 250 squats. All my friends dropped out before the end, but I finished!
Try getting a trainer and scheduling appointments with him/her. that is usually pretty beneficial to people starting a weight training program.

Strength training isn't my favorite thing either but I do it because I know it's beneficial in the long run. Have you tried using the workout generator (www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_plan_ generator.asp ). You can play around with it to see what kind of workouts seem interesting enough to you. Perhaps using resistance bands, body weight (no weights), and dumbbells.

Inspiration can't come from your equipment. Move the inspiration inside you... that will help. You know you need to do it, so make a plan, make an appointment, and DO it!
I wouldn't worry too much about the dumbbells... you'll adapt to them quickly, and they won't challenge you long enough to make any real results. Use those resistance bands. Join the resistance band team headed here by Sergeant Major - you'll get lots of support!

I've been on SP for almost 2 months now, and have lost 8 pounds! I've stepped up my walking and am slowly starting to work on a 5k training program (I have an ankle issue).
I do have a set of 3 pound weights and some resistance bands. The bad thing is that they totally don't inspire me to use them, even if I leave them out in plain sight. I've tried a few of the strength training videos on here, with the same result.
