Welcome friend. You're in the right place. You will find more encouragement here than you know what to do with. There are so many resources and tools on SP that it's a little overwhelming at first. Take your time and know that you can do it. There is no magic or secret. Just consistency and support. You'll find it all here if you give it a chance.

Welcome to SparkPeople!!
Spark was the first time that I REALLY tried to lose weight (after I stopped in my teens). It worked! I know that you can do this.
In my opinion, motivation is one of those things that people talk about losing, but truly I don't have any MORE motivation than anyone else here, it's just that on the days that I feel like skipping my workout I think of reasons to go, my reasons for being here, and what I TRULY want (instead of what I want at that moment). I'm not perfect, but I make more healthy choices than not, and those add up over time!
Love yourself, take small steps, and everything you need is here on Spark. You can do it! Take care, Jocelyn

You could not have gotten any better or more complete advice than you got from MOMMA_BEAR.; advice was awesome.
When she said to use the fitness and nutrition trackers every day and honestly the honest part may have sounded silly, but it isn't at all. For anyone who has a problem with food, stopping fooling yourself is so important. Even though only you will read it, if you have something fattening during the day, you may be tempted to just not write that down because it will look bad. This is for you, it's for each of us individually and only we see it, but we're good at fooling ourselves. Being honest on the trackers gives you great insight as to how much you are really eating and you'll learn how many calories are in that cookie. Don 't lie to yourself and say you're working out if you're not. Your tracker is for you to learn to keep track and learn what you eat, even if many calories, but don't fill you, and those meals with maybe less calories that do fill you comfortably.
Come visit Spark People everyday, many times a day if you can and read the articles, the blogs, there is a huge amount of info on the site and many message boards were everyone is supporting each other.l I only started the first week of January and I'm doing okay. I wish my weight would fall off of me, but that won't happen. If I stick with it I will reach my goal sometime and if I stop who gets disappointed? Me.
I first signed on to SP in 2010 and had I stayed the course I would have a good chunk of the weight off now. I kicked myself when I realized that, but then I remembered that I vowed to be kind and patient with myself. If I slip, I slip, but I get back at the very next meal. I don't try to make the next week a week that I starve, but just keep it on track. None of us are heroes, We are people who have problems, who fail and who succeed. I hope you and I both will stay the course this time and succeed. Take one day at a time and after a little while you'll be pleasantly surprised. Don't try to lose too fast though, just reach for 102 pounds a week or even a half pound.
Good, Better, Best. Never let them rest. Until your Good is Better, and then your Better, Best.
Thank you!! I've been doing great with water lately. Since I started working out at the gym. I just chug it down w/o realizing. I just have to keep up with water and going to the gym... and next portions. It's all so scary to keep up with! I'm usually good with stuff for a couple weeks then stop. lets hope it doesnt happen. thanks again for positive thoughts :)
Hi Kate and welcome to Spark People where you will find lots of information and tons of support and encouragement from all our members. You will find that we also have fun along the way. Drink your 8-8oz glasses of water a day (If you only drink one now, add to as you are able until you are drinking your 8 cups or more a day), watch your portion control (measure everything in the beginning...guaranteed it will get easier) and walk, dance or do any exercise you enjoy (start with 10 minutes a day or several times a day and add to it as you are able or have time). Use your fitness and nutrition tracker daily (guaranteed to work if you use them consistently and honestly). Pick one thing to change...one thing at a time. Don't try to change to many things at once as that can be very overwhelming. Just try to take one step, one minute, one hour, one day, one week at a time. They honestly will all add up to the bigger numbers. These tips will definitely help in lowering your numbers and increasing your ability to enjoy life. Don't expect miracles right away...this is a lifestyle change not a diet. You will be much healthier in the long run. Post any concerns, comments or questions you may have and someone will respond quickly. Start each day with a positive thought just for that day. Reading and reflecting on an inspirational thought or message before you start your day can put you in a positive frame of mind. Your thoughts determine whether you have a good day or a bad day. Fill your mind with positive ideas, suggestions, and thoughts. You will find it will change your attitude and changing your attitude can change your life. Sometimes just reading an inspirational quote or a short paragraph helps one see the positive in a situation. Sometimes as your day progresses you just need to take a break...Take a mental break and read or think about a message of inspiration. Never underestimate your power to change and improve! You are a good person, with wonderful qualities, and you can reach your goals! If I can be of any help to you, please let me know with a spark mail or a comment on my page. I am here for you. God bless you on your journey to a healthier you. Hugs, Helen

Hi, I'm Kate, and this is my first time trying to get active on the site.
This is my first big attempt to loose wait, and I really want to make a dent in my goal by July. I'm pretty nervous though, I'm easily discouraged and not a lot of support. I have signed up with a trainer in hopes of having someone to keep me on top of things... If anyone has suggestions for staying motivated and on track I'd love to hear them.
