The best advice was to set goals that were positive, i.e. ones that didn't include "no" or "not", but rather things you WILL do. So for example "I will drink 2 extra glasses of water today" or "for dessert I will top some berries with greek yogurt" or "I will do 30 minutes of exercise today" are all positive and achievable.
Also, remember that it will happen a little bit at a time. Every small choice you make can have an impact. You have a lot going on so may not be able to change everything at once, but if you slowly change things you can still start to feel better and have success. Good luck. :)
You have a lot going on, so don't beat yourself up. The other poster is right - you need to give some time to yourself each day to make sure you get healthier.
In addition to exercising, which is a GREAT stress fighter, you might want to consider reaching out to a caregiver support group in your area. If you can go even once a month just to vent and talk to other people who are going through very similar situations, it could be a huge help.
As for the junk food, I know it can be hard to take away from some people, but you may want to consider getting some of it out of the house. Rather than all of it, maybe you get rid of half of it, or bargain with your boyfriend and son about what can stay and what goes (and how much!). That way, everyone compromises but nobody completely loses.
I have "started again" a few times, and the key to feeling better is taking care of yourself. You have so many responsibilities being the primary caregiver for your son, often, caregivers lose sight of their own needs. Put yourself first and the rest will come easier. (I'm still working on that myself). Best of luck starting over- as long as you keep trying, you will succeed.
My son has duchenne muscular dystrophy and I struggle with my emotions most of the time as his primary caregiver. He nearly died last March and I was trying to diet at that time. I have since gained another 20 pounds. My boyfriend and son are junk food snackers and I do great usually all day until the evening. I know I am an emotional eater. I am working on this and have also joined the gym. I also turned 46 this year and am in the beginnings of perimenopause and lack energy and do not sleep well. I have begun supplements for this at least. Any advice would be welcome. If I could just get started to lose I would have more motivation to keep going. Please help.
