It appears the company is located in NY. If the muffins have no preservatives, freezing them will act as a preservative, extending "shelf life" and also increasing the geographical area in which they can be sold. You can defrost them in the microwave or just sitting on the counter. Once defrosted... idk what their "life" would be... it seems best to just defrost one and then eat it, rather than defrost a bunch of them and eat them over several days' time.

The danger of defrosting stuff on the counter has more to do with protein foods such as chicken, beef, pork, fish (rather than baked goods). You don't want to do that. They should be defrosted in the fridge or in a large bowl/the sink filled with cold water. Change the water, make sure it stays cold. When the meat is defrosted, refrigerate it til you're ready to cook it. I usually put it in the fridge when it's mostly defrosted, to let it finish defrosting there, just to be on the safe side.

people like buying convenience foods is another reason why they would freeze them.
i think the thawing on the counter all day is a where you live thing. i live in florida, so that seems like food poisoning to me, but our average high is probably well over 80 here. for more northerly peoples, it seems to be pretty common and based on temperature, perfectly safe to do.

They will spoil - most preservative free muffins spoil quickly.

"Keep frozen unless defrosting for immediate use. DEFROSTING INSTRUCTIONS (optional) Defrost your Veggie Muffin at room temp for 4 hours and enjoy!"

Anyone had these? I've heard only great things about them and wanted to give the Banana Zucchini Chocolate Chip ones a try. I was just wondering though, does anyone know why they have to be frozen? Is it because they don't use preservatives or something? Some people told me they just leave them out all day to thaw, and it doesn't seem like anything's wrong with that. I was wondering whether there's any reason why that would be unsafe to eat.
