I feel it is a responsibility for the adults in a child's life to set boundaries in all areas. I think its so important for kids to know they can trust their parents to make the decisions for them that are going to benefit them most. I think we are their teachers and protectors (of even their health). I have such compassion for the multitude of teens and adults I see each day struggling from poor childhood dietary habits that have carried over into adulthood.
I understand occasional treats (as prior posters mentioned).

I've personally never understood the appeal. My 12 year old loves em, but he knows they arent real fruit and mom doesnt buy them very much, if at all. He knows actual fruit, granola and yogurt are always better snack choices anyway and quite enjoys them. But give that kid a pack of gummy fruit and he thinks he hit the lottery or something. LOL

I don' t like them but my kids love them. I just try to buy the ones with the fewest ingredients.

I LOVE fruit snacks! I don't always have fresh fruit available, (at work, for instance) but the vending machine ALWAYS has fruit snacks. I know, plan ahead and buy fruit. It never lasts in my house. Between my husband and my daughter, a three pound bag of apples or oranges don't last long enough for me to take fruit to work every day. Hence, FRUIT SNACKS!!!!!!!!! :)

Can anyone explain the allure of "fruit snacks"? I am confused about how they even exist when there is an abundant supply of real fruit.
