I love fruit and am not allergic (well, maybe a bit to pineapple after too many years of living in tropical places and eating several pineapple a week!) but I find that I really can't work in more than one fruit a day without messing up my diet. I think that this is fairly common for people with diabetes, insulin resistance and other metabolic issues.

Eat vegetables instead!

Brenna84, you might want to keep an eye on their fruit intake. There is a lot of sugar in fruit and it can really mess with their tooth enamel.

I'm glad to hear you can sub veges for fruit. I love fruit myself but should probably eat less of it and more of veges.

If you have diabetes I would suggest seeing a nutritionist. From what I understand from a friend who had the same problem with fruits.. is that it means there is an imbalance in your diet. My friend was practically starving herself, because one grape would send her blood sugar out of wack. They adjusted her diet and it helped, her diabetes ended up being rather severe and she had to start taking shots, but she was very happy to be able to eat a normal meal again.

Granted if you know you can eat veggies with no issues, what everyone else suggested would be much easier! Bell pepper for the win!

I agree with Anarie--
Go for a variety of colorful veggies---5-9 servings daily.

You don't have to eat fruit if you eat veggies. There are no nutrients in fruit that you can't get from a veggie of a similar color. If you couldn't eat any vegetables, you would need to work with a dietitian or doctor, but fruit isn't necessary for good health.

I am having issues with fruit.

I am allergic to MOST fruit. fruit that goes on trees and has a stone/seeds like apples/plus/pears, etc.

allergic to strawberries

I can have bananas, canned pineapple, berries, melons, etc.

the problem is, even in small amounts it messes with my blood sugar.

and no matter how I tried I can't keep a reasonable weight with fruit. I ALWAYS end up putting weight.

does this happen to anybody else? what do others do? should I still try?
