Banana and chocolate smoothie. Chocolate milk is lower in calories and is more beneficial than Gatorade as a recovery drink and the banana has all of those yummy minerals and vitamins :)

I eat the same thing every day after a workout- a serving of pistachios and a mix of fresh strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. Keeps me full until lunch. If I don't eat almost immediately after working out I feel shaky and weak.

Peanut butter and jelly is my perfect go to after a hard workout! It has protein, carbs, and just a little bit of sugar!

Balance your pre-workout meal with a protein and a carbohydrate..0% Fage Plain Greek yogurt with blueberries, Eggs or egg whites on rye toast.....

Carbs after a workout ..Researchers from the University of Michigan discovered that what you eat following a workout may trigger different metabolic responses... bouts of exercise all improved insulin sensitivity, but it was especially enhanced when the session included the low-carb meal. Eat oatmeal before a work out with slivered almonds or walnuts...Also eating low carb ...Having good insulin sensitivity means that the body can more easily take sugar from the bloodstream, allowing muscles to use it for fuel

Protein helps repair and rebuild muscles especially when eating 1/2 hour after exercise. Brown Rice cereal provides and replenishes depleted glycogen.. After a workout half some dark chocolate which will bring more oxygen to replenish any muscle sorness. Over 70% chocolate is the best.

Cramps could be a signal that you are dehydrated, sip water throughout your workout.

Dont' worry about "undoing" your workout. Your body doesn't work that way. Your exercise is actually the smallest portion of the calories you burn each day. You don't look at what you eat after a workout, you look at your calories in and out at the end of the day and week.

The best post-workout snacks involve protein and some carbs for quick energy. If your legs are cramping, you may have a bit of a potassium shortage. The best food in the world for that is the banana. ;) There's a reason runners love them!

As long as you're eating in your range and tracking your snacks, you can't "undo" a workout with a single meal or snack. Undoing your hard work involves overeating at the end of the day, over your maintenance range.

So I admit I find it really really hard to eat after an intense workout because then I feel bad for eating the calories I just burned! But, I have also noticed that I will tend to be ravenous about an hour afterwards and it is hard to know what to consume that wont undo the hard work. But then sometimes I will also have really awful leg cramps if I don't eat much for dinner so I am wondering what is the best food to eat after a super hard workout that might alleviate the cramping legs?
